AJ Lee has defeated Becky Lynch capture the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
The victory at WWE Elimination Chamber marks Lee’s first championship win in eleven years.
The closing moments of the match featured significant chaos and a referee bump. Lynch removed a turnbuckle pad while official Jessika Carr checked on her opponent. Shortly after, the champion accidentally kicked Carr in the head.
Lee applied the Black Widow submission hold, and Lynch tapped out while the referee remained incapacitated.
Lynch subsequently attacked Lee outside the ring and brought a steel chair inside the ropes. The titleholder executed a DDT and a Manhandle Slam, but the challenger survived the ensuing pinfall attempt.
Carr recovered and physically prevented Lynch from driving Lee into the exposed turnbuckle. Lee dodged a subsequent charge, causing Lynch to crash directly into the bare steel. The challenger secured the Black Widow once more, forcing a final submission.
An elated Lee celebrated with her newly won championship despite sustaining a busted lip.
