Tony D’Angelo defeated Dion Lennox following an extensive backstage brawl at NXT Vengeance Day.
The match officially began after the competitors crashed through a set wall and entered the ring at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. They previously fought from the parking lot through the backstage corridors.
The pre-match altercation started when DarkState attacked a decoy driver arriving at the venue. D’Angelo blindsided Lennox from behind and threw a beer keg that missed its target and shattered a car windshield.
He forced his opponent into the building and shut a garage door to isolate him from the rest of the faction. Saquon Shugars, Osiris Griffin, and Cutler James eventually breached the area to assist their leader. OTM then arrived to neutralize the interference.
The returning star tackled Lennox through the arena wall to bring the fight to the ringside area. The referee called for the bell once both exhausted men climbed into the ring.
During the official match, D’Angelo delivered four consecutive German suplexes and a torture-rack neckbreaker. Lennox recovered on the outside, throwing his opponent over the barricade before hitting a suplex through the commentary desk.
Returning to the ring, Lennox executed a slingshot sit-out powerbomb for a near-fall. D’Angelo countered the ensuing attack with a spear and hit a high-impact spinebuster to secure the victory.
The victor previously stated he returned to NXT for two specific reasons. He has now achieved his first goal of securing a measure of revenge against DarkState.
