Dominik Mysterio is still the AAA Mega Champion after the first week of three Rey de Reyes specials to air on Fox in Latin America.

Mysterio held onto the title against El Hijo del Vikingo, where Mysterio’s career in AAA was at stake. The match was full of run-ins, including Dorian Roldan being way too late to break up a cover by the champion. Omos was brought down as another obstacle for Mysterio with plenty of weapons mixed into the match.

Mini Vikingo returned after being hospitalized by El Ojo, sending El Hijo del Vikingo off the top turnbuckle with a Frankensteiner and working with Dominik to take Omos out of the match after chair shots.

Dominik finished off Vikingo with a chair shot, 619, and Frog Splash with the crowd rabid throughout the nearly twelve-minute main event.

The show took place on Saturday in front of a red-hot crowd at the Auditorio GNP Seguros in Puebla de Zaragoza and enhanced all the matches on Saturday’s broadcast.

Announcers Corey Graves, Rey Mysterio & JBL mentioned Konnan’s health issues, with a message to “heal up soon” and that they were thinking about him. It was the first acknowledgement of Konnan’s health problems on AAA since the news had broken in Mexico and Konnan’s leaving the broadcast role.

Lucha Bros. reunite and tease more

Penta started the show by welcoming everyone to Rey de Reyes and introducing his brother and “his favorite wrestler”, Penta.

Penta mentioned how they were supposed to team in December, but his shoulder injury prevented it, and Rey Mysterio took his spot. Penta asked the audience if they wanted to see them team again, and suggested doing it at TripleMania or when they return to Puebla.

Penta added that he is awaiting a challenger for the Intercontinental title, and the show kicked off.

Ding Dong, Bayley Answers

Flammer issued an open challenge last week for any woman on the Raw or SmackDown roster to challenge for the Reina de Reinas Championship.

The champion came to the ring without Las Toxicas.

Bayley answered the challenge and appeared to have a blast in Puebla. JBL compared this match-up to Shohei Ohtani facing Nolan Ryan.

Flammer has held the Reina de Reinas Championship for 944 days and will break Taya Valkyrie’s record on Monday if she retains tonight.

Bayley struggled to get hold of Flammer, who yanked the turnbuckle pad as she was hoisted for the Bayley-to-belly and kicked out.

Bayley hit an elbow off the top when Lady Maravilla appeared and was struck by Bayley’s baseball slide dropkick. The ref was dealing with Lady Maravilla when La Hiedra appeared on the opposite apron, which led to Bayley being sent into the exposed buckle and Flammer winning with a codebreaker and sit-out dropkick.

Rey de Americanos

The final of the Rey de Reyes tournament saw El Grande American (Ludwig Kaiser), Original El Grande Americano (Chad Gable), Santos Escobar, and La Parka competing.

They credited La Parka with winning Rey de Reyes five times, but JBL later clarified that “the character of La Parka” won them.

It was the longest match on the show at nearly twenty minutes, and Kaiser received a superstar-level response. You would assume you were in another dimension, watching him on Raw compared to AAA.

There was a clever double submission spot with Kaiser applying La Cavernaria on La Parka, and Gable had Escobar in the ankle lock.

Gable and Kaiser each loaded their masks and collided head-on. They brawled into the crowd and disappeared as Escobar and La Parka continued. Then, they appeared on the upper deck of the arena and Rayo & Bravo handcuffed Gable to the balcony and took him out of the match. It was revenge for Gable doing the same to Kaiser to qualify.

Kaiser was helped back to the ring and made a big comeback. Then, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. stopped Escobar from using a chair and struck his arm. Kaiser hit La Parka and Escobar with the loaded mask and won.

The crowd loved it, and Kaiser felt like a megastar in this match.
