Dennis Condrey died at 74.
Dax Harwood was the first to share the news, writing a heartfelt social media post about the impact Condrey had on him. PWInsider later confirmed it.
Condrey was best known as “Loverboy” and one of the founding members of the Midnight Express in 1980, along with Randy Rose and Norvell Austin. A new edition of the Midnight Express was formed when Condrey jumped to Mid-South Wrestling, where he teamed with Bobby Eaton. The team was managed by Jim Cornette and defined tag team wrestling in Mid-South, World Class Championship Wrestling, and Jim Crockett Promotions. They gained national prominence, with memorable tag-team matches against Magnum TA and Mr. Wrestling II, The Fantastics, The Road Warriors, and The Rock N’ Roll Express.
After leaving Jim Crockett Promotions in 1987, Condrey reunited with Rose in the AWA to reform The Midnight Express, managed by Paul Heyman, and feuding with Eaton, Cornette, and Stan Lane in WCW before leaving in 1989. Condrey wrestled with the Continental Wrestling Federation and International Championship Wrestling before retiring in 1990. He returned in 2004 to team with Eaton and wrestled on the independent circuit off and on.
FTR and CM Punk paid tribute to Condrey in AEW in 2023. Harwood set up a GoFundMe to help Condrey’s family. A $7,000 goal was set, and as of this writing, $5,500 was raised. There was a top donation of $1,000 from “Cody Runnels,” and a donation from “Nicholas Aldis.” It is unknown whether those donations were actually made by Cody Rhodes and Nick Aldis since GoFundMe allows users to make donations under any name.
