NJPW will feature two junior heavyweight championship matches two days before Sakura Genesis during its ‘Road to’ event.

The April 2 ‘Road to Sakura Genesis’ sees NJPW at Korakuen Hall for a pair of championship matches as DOUKI defends the IWGP junior heavyweight championship at YOH in the main event.

DOUKI defended the title against Master Wato at NJPW’s anniversary event earlier this month with assistance from the House of Torture. YOH got involved after the match by attacking the champion and setting up DOUKI’s next defense.

The Korakuen Hall show also sees Taiji Ishimori & Robbie X defend the IWGP junior heavyweight tag titles for the first time when they meet Francesco Akira & Jakob Austin Young on April 2. The Unbound Company reps became champions at the anniversary card earlier this month, including X winning his first gold in NJPW. The United Empire stormed the ring to attack the newly crowned champions to set up this match.

The ‘Road to Sakura Genesis’ begins this Saturday with five events before Sakura Genesis on April 4 at Sumo Hall.

Saturday’s show will be headlined by a ten-man tag with Yota Tsuji, Shingo Takagi, Taiji Ishimori, Robbie X & Daiki Nagai facing Callum Newman, Jake Lee, Francesco Akira, Jakob Austin Young & Zane Jay.

The tour continues March 29 & 30 in Shizuoka, April 1 in Nagano, and April 2 at Korakuen Hall.
