The Butcher on AEW absence: ‘Just waiting for the call to return’

Butcher, one-half of The Butcher and The Blade, isn’t sure when he’ll be back on AEW TV.

The Buffalo-based wrestler, also known as Andy Williams, said in a recent interview that he’s still under contract with AEW, despite being absent from the promotion’s programming for months.

Butcher explained in a recent interview with Youngstown Studio that a large portion of his absence was due to his tag partner, The Blade, being out with back issues. But with Blade back and performing on the independent scene again, they’re now just waiting for the call to come back to AEW programming.

“[I’m] still under contract,” he explained. “That was the big thing, Blade had his back fused. So, as a tag team wrestler, it’s like, how many times can you send a guy out there in singles matches and they lose, you know what I mean? You kind of have to shelve them. I kind of understand and try to be humble with that. It does seep into your head, like, ‘Dude, what did I do wrong?’ Because no-one talks to you. It’s not like they check up on me every week going ‘How are you doing, dude?’ It’s just, ‘We’ll call you when we need you.’ That is kind of like a headf***. At the same time, I’m so grateful because I get paid every two weeks and, Blade is now healthy, so we can work indies and stuff like that, and just waiting for the call for the return. Hopefully it happens soon. I know that there’s a lot of injuries going on right now in AEW, so, that’s usually an indicator that they’re probably going to bring some guys back that were sitting.”

The Butcher’s last AEW match was in February 2025, when he went one-on-one with Gabe Kidd.

A reunion of The Butcher and The Blade on AEW TV, if it happens soon, would be years in the making. The last time they teamed on the show dates back to January 2024.
