Friday Night SmackDown ranks fourth on cable behind March Madness

Friday Night SmackDown ranked fourth on cable this past Friday behind the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

The March 27 episode from Pittsburgh averaged 1,308,000 viewers and 449,000 viewers (0.33) in the 18-49 demographic on the USA Network.

The show fell by nine percent in overall viewers while growing by three percent in the demo. While viewership hit a three-week low, the 18-49 audience was its highest mark since February 27.

In the core demo, male viewership grew by eight percent this week to offset a four percent drop among females.

Adults 18-34 grew from 0.16 to 0.18, and adults 25-54 fell from 0.44 to 0.43.

The top three cable slots were occupied by March Madness coverage on TBS and truTV. The games averaged 3,341,000 viewers and 0.75 in 18-49 on TBS and 1,492,000 and 0.36 on truTV.

SmackDown also aired against the NCAA game on CBS, which averaged 10.4 million viewers and 2.23 in 18-49.

Internationally, the show ranked in Netflix’s top ten rankings in Canada, Bolivia, Trinidad & Tobago, and El Salvador.
