The Dogs captured the AEW World Trios titles on Saturday’s Collision and immediately had their first title defense lined up for AEW Dynasty.
Gabe Kidd, Clark Connors, and David Finlay beat Místico, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, and Kevin Knight in the opening match of the April 11 episode.
Místico and JetSpeed had entered the show, which was taped on April 8, as champions after winning the belts at Revolution on March 15.
The match broke down into a fast-moving six-man fight almost from the bell, with action spilling to the floor and momentum changing hands throughout.
Místico rallied late and trapped Connors in La Mística. Knight nearly turned the tide with the UFO Splash, but Finlay got his knees up and The Dogs quickly swung the match back in their favor.
Bailey took the deciding sequence. Kidd dropped him with a piledriver, Finlay hoisted him up, and Connors flew in with a spear before Kidd stayed on Bailey for the pinfall.
The title change was followed by an immediate challenge for Sunday’s pay-per-view.
Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy appeared backstage and told the new champions they would see them at Dynasty, with Strong saying they had a third partner lined up for the match. Cassidy then played off the reveal by admitting he had forgotten to actually ask the mystery partner and walked off to make the phone call.
