Jon Moxley knew Will Ospreay’s weaknesses and played into them on Sunday night.
Targeting the weakened neck of Ospreay was the key to Moxley’s win on this weekend, retaining the AEW Continental Championship as part of the Dynasty pay-per-view in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
While Ospreay had the lead to start the match, catching Moxley off guard with a pair of Hidden Blades, Moxley was able to battle back into the bout. Moxley’s moveset was tailored to repeatedly dropping Ospreay on his head, trying to aggravate the recently returned wrestler’s neck issues.
As the match neared its 20-minute time limit, Moxley almost won the match via count-out after scoring a piledriver onto the steel steps. Ospreay beat the count but was put away by a brutal flurry of moves right after, taking a Curbstomp, two Paradigm Shifts, then a Death Rider for the pinfal finish.
Ospreay ended a six-month absence from AEW programming last month when he returned at Revolution and set his sights on Continental champ Moxley.
The British star was out for revenge, as Moxley and his Death Riders had in-storyline taken Ospreay out of commission following a brutal post-match attack at last year’s Forbidden Door card. The attack had written Ospreay off TV so he could undergo a planned neck surgery.
Moxley has held his title since late 2025, when he won the 2025 Continental Classic. His previous program with the title was against Konosuke Takeshita, whom he overcame in a 23-minute match at Revolution last month.
