Tony Khan has announced that Darby Allin will defend the AEW World Championship against Tommaso Ciampa just one week after winning it.

AEW has scheduled the match for the April 22 edition of AEW Dynamite. Khan confirmed the booking on social media.

Allin captured the title from MJF at the Spring BreakThru special on April 15. He secured the victory in his hometown of Everett, Washington, by utilizing a headlock takeover in a short match after trading underhanded tactics with MJF.

Ciampa defeated Dezmond Xavier earlier on the same broadcast. Afterwards, the challenger delivered a promo targeting the main event participants. He stated that whoever left the arena with the gold would have a target on their back.

Khan addressed the situation on X:

Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite LIVE nationwide: 8/7c/6m/5p THIS WEDNESDAY!

After his win Wednesday, Tommaso Ciampa made a challenge to the World Champion! Darby Allin has accepted: Darby vs Ciampa for the World Title THIS WEDNESDAY!

The promotion has so far announced two other matches for Wednesday’s broadcast.

  • AEW World Championship: Darby Allin (c) vs. Tommaso Ciampa
  • Mina Shirakawa vs. Hikaru Shida
  • Will Ospreay vs. Mark Davis
