Bron Breakker has defeated Seth Rollins in the opening contest of WWE Backlash.

The event took place at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, with the opening encounter airing on ESPN2 in the United States.

Rollins initiated the match aggressively by launching multiple suicide dives to the floor. Breakker quickly shifted the momentum when he caught Rollins on the top rope and delivered an overhead belly-to-belly suplex to the ringside area.

Breakker maintained control throughout the middle portion of the contest, utilizing a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and a series of German suplexes. Rollins eventually rallied, escaping a reverse chinlock and delivering a sequence of short-arm clotheslines followed by a Buckle Bomb.

The action escalated when Breakker attempted an avalanche Frankensteiner from the top turnbuckle. Rollins landed on his feet, surprising his opponent, and capitalized with two superkicks. He followed up with a Pedigree and a Stomp, seemingly securing a victory.

Paul Heyman then jumped onto the ring apron to distract the referee. This prompted Austin Theory and Logan Paul to attempt an ambush. Rollins retrieved a steel chair and fended off both men. He chased Paul up the entrance ramp before returning to the ring.

Upon re-entering the ring, Rollins immediately absorbed a spear from Breakker but managed to kick out. Rollins countered a subsequent spear attempt with a second Pedigree and dove from the middle rope.

Breakker caught him with a spear in mid-air, ran the ropes, and hit a final spear to secure the pinfall.
