Former professional wrestler Eddy Mansfield has stated that his longtime friend Marty Jannetty recently had his foot amputated.
Mansfield shared the update during an appearance on the Monte & The Pharaoh podcast:
One of my dearest friends ever on the face of this earth, and was a great wrestler, had his foot amputated. His name is the Rocker Marty Jannetty.
Speaking of WWE, he added, “You can’t help him when he is in the biggest need of his life and fighting for his life?”
Mansfield heavily criticized WWE during the interview for a lack of financial and medical assistance. He questioned why the company had not intervened to help Jannetty with his ongoing health issues.
Jannetty, 66, previously stated in January 2024 that doctors were considering amputating his leg. The veteran underwent ankle reconstruction surgery in 2020.
Eddy Mansfield wrestled under the moniker “The Continental Lover” throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. The former competitor remains most infamous in the wrestling industry for his appearance on a 1984 episode of ABC’s 20/20.
During the broadcast hosted by John Stossel, Mansfield demonstrated in detail how wrestlers blade during matches. The segment essentially ended his active in-ring career.
The episode also featured the infamous assault on Stossel by David Schultz, resulting in an out-of-court settlement by WWE.
No official statement regarding Jannetty’s condition has been released at the time of publication.
Jannetty began his professional wrestling career in 1983. He rose to national prominence as one-half of The Rockers alongside Shawn Michaels. The duo achieved significant success in the American Wrestling Association, capturing the AWA World Tag Team Championship on two occasions.
The team joined the World Wrestling Federation in 1988 and quickly became one of the most popular acts in the company. Their partnership ended in 1992 during an infamous television angle. Michaels turned on Jannetty and threw him through a glass window during the Brutus Beefcake “Barbershop” interview segment.
Jannetty transitioned into a singles competitor and secured the WWF Intercontinental Championship in May 1993 by defeating Michaels on Monday Night Raw. He later captured the WWF Tag Team Championship alongside the 1-2-3 Kid in January 1994.
His subsequent runs with the promotion were intermittent, and he eventually moved to the independent circuit.
