“The King” will have a street named after him in his hometown.
The Memphis City Council decided this week that a quarter-mile road near Treadwell Middle School will be named after Jerry Lawler. News of the change was confirmed by the Memphis Commercial Appeal on Tuesday.
The street, formerly known as Homer Street, is expected to be renamed after Lawler sometime in the future. An exact date for the change and specific details about the new name of the road haven’t been confirmed just yet.
76-year-old Lawler was a critically acclaimed talent in the Memphis wrestling scene, gaining prominence in the Continental Wrestling Association and United States Wrestling Association from the 70s to 90s. He is a Memphis Wrestling and WWE Hall of Famer.
Lawler has been dealing with health struggles over the past few years, having suffered three strokes since 2018. He revealed in an interview with Action News 5 late last year that his most recent stroke left him colorblind.
