Before pay-per-view action got started on Sunday night as part of Forbidden Door, AEW presented a one-hour “Buy In” pre-show. The free-to-watch three-match broadcast included a tag title contest, a qualifier bout, and more. Here’s a quick rundown of all the highlights:
AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions The Divine Dominion once again retained on Sunday night, beating the team of CMLL’s Olympia and former women’s world champ Thunder Rosa. The tag champs ended the match at 10 minutes, scoring a double-team chokeslam to Rosa for the pinfall win.
Divine Dominion have held the tag belts for over 100 days, with Sunday being their fifth time successfully defending the belts. They have previously beaten teams like TayJay, the Babes of Wrath, and the duo of Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander.
STARDOM’s Maika earned herself an AEW title shot as part of the pre-show.
Maika secured the final spot in Wednesday’s upcoming Survival of the Fittest six-way elimination match for the vacant TBS Championship, defeating Skye Blue in a qualifier bout. The hard-hitting Joshi talent connected with a suplex on the ring apron, then scored a hammerlock Michinoku Driver for the pinfall victory in nine minutes.
The win means Maika will return on the next episode of Dynamite, battling in a TBS title match which will also feature Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, Queen Aminata, Persephone, and Harley Cameron.
Co-promoted matchups got started early, as NJPW’s Drilla Moloney took down Death Riders’ Daniel Garcia in a 10-minute opener. Moloney, who was making his first-ever singles appearance on an AEW card, used his Drilla Killa piledriver for the pinfall.
