A series of big matchups were announced for next week’s “Beach Break” edition of AEW Dynamite from Clearwater, Florida.
Kenny Omega will put his future as a top name in AEW on the line when he challenges world champ MJF next week, it was announced today.
MJF allowed Omega the opportunity to challenge him next week for the title, but said he would never be allowed to fight for the belt ever again if he loses. After spending the evening considering his options, Omega ended up accepting the high-risk offer.
The matchup will see Omega try to beat MJF on his third try. He most recently attempted to overcome MJF at the Dynasty pay-per-view earlier this year, coming up short in the main event.
A win for Omega could significantly change AEW’s summer plans. It would most notably give Will Ospreay a new opponent in the main event of All In: London at Wembley Stadium.
Along with the world title showdown, two other huge bouts were confirmed for next week’s show.
AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita will defend his title against former friend Kyle Fletcher next week.
While Fletcher was one of Takeshita’s closest allies for years, everything changed when the Japanese talent was brutally ousted from the Don Callis Family at Double or Nothing in May.
For the first time since that night, Takeshita will meet Fletcher in a one-on-one matchup for his International belt. Fletcher will be trying to begin his first-ever stint with the International Championship.
It was also revealed that a Casino Gauntlet match will take place next week to determine who challenges AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla at the Redemption pay-per-view later this month. The #1 and #2 entrants in the match will be decided on tomorrow’s Collision, where Athena will face STARDOM’s Rina, and Maya World will meet Julia Hart.
It was previously confirmed that the long-awaited grudge match between Jericho and Tommaso Ciampa will take place as part of Beach Break. Here’s how the card looks currently:
