AJ Ferrari, a college wrestling standout and member of WWE’s initial NIL class, was arrested after being accused of assaulting a pregnant woman.
Ferrari is facing charges of assault by strangulation or suffocation on a pregnant woman, third-degree domestic assault, and first-degree false imprisonment.
The police affidavit reveals that on May 8, police responded to a call to Ferrari’s apartment to check on the pregnant woman after receiving a call from the woman’s mother seeking help. The woman states that the previous night she had been arguing with Ferrari and hid inside a closet attempting to call her mother, per NTV News.
She states in the affidavit that Ferrari took her phone, lay on top of her, and dragged her off the bed before strangling her on the floor. She was transported to the Bryan Medical Center and immediately flew to California after leaving the hospital. The medical records confirm she was treated for abrasions and bruises on her neck, which were deemed consistent with strangulation.
The police issued a warrant this past Thursday for Ferrari with a restraining order filed by the unnamed woman.
It comes just days after Ferrari was arrested on a separate matter where he was pursued by cops in a high-speed chase and arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and disturbing the peace. He was out after the $2,000 bond was posted, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.
Ferrari wrestled at Oklahoma State and Cal State Bakersfield before transferring to the University of Nebraska last year.
He was arrested and charged with sexual battery in 2022, but the charges were dropped in Payne County District Court after the district attorney representing the plaintiff cited “vicious attacks” and “harassment” lodged at her client online. Ferrari maintained he was innocent.
Ferrari was among the athletes named by WWE in its inaugural NIL (Next in Line) class in 2021.
