The Berwyn Eagles Club in Illinois, a popular host for wrestling shows, has been sold and will operate under a new name.
Ambar Colón of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the venue, under much scrutiny over the past few months, has been sold to the nearby Berwyn Auto Spa and will be rechristened Destino under its new ownership.
It is unknown if the soon-to-be renovated space will house pro wrestling events under new management.
A March 28 show promoted by Ruthless Pro Wrestling caused a major uproar when an inebriated fan was attacked and ejected from the building. Two wrestlers on the card claimed that fellow wrestler Krule was stabbed by the fan first, but video footage and other eyewitnesses disputed this. The Berwyn Police Department concluded no stabbing occurred.
After the Ruthless show, the venue told promoters earlier this year that it wouldn’t be hosting wrestling events any further. It informed Game Changer Wrestling that it would need to find an alternative site for a June 20 event. A GoFundMe was launched with the endorsement of Eagles Club operator Chuck Marose Sr., stating that the venue “lost its license and is no longer allowed to host wrestling shows”. This was disputed by the Chicago Sun-Times, after the Berwyn chief of police told the paper that the venue’s entertainment license had not been revoked.
The Berwyn Eagles Club had been hosting pro wrestling shows for over two decades, including housing shows run by AAW and SHIMMER.
