Cruz Montana isn’t in a rush to get out of NXT.
Montana, formerly known in TNA and AEW as Mike Santana, made his debut on NXT TV a little over a week ago, laying out a challenge to face champ Tony D’Angelo.
While Montana has years of experience on weekly TV wrestling programs, including a lengthy stint as TNA World Champion, he’s starting his WWE career with a run in the company’s Tuesday-night developmental program.
Montana said in a recent Busted Open Radio interview that he’s in no rush to move up to WWE’s main roster. Instead, he wants to stay in NXT for as long as needed and take in knowledge from the program’s top minds.
“I’m not putting a timetable on anything. I’m here. One thing I’ve always learned about myself is, I’m going to go with the flow. I’m going to harvest as much knowledge as I possibly can, whether it’s in six months, whether it’s in eight months, or twelve months. However long I got, it’s my job to attain as much as possible. That’s my plan, man. I want to learn as much as possible and being able to work under Shawn Michaels, as you know, is a pleasure and a gift in itself. Talk about one of the greatest to ever do it. And for me, to be able to learn from him and take in that knowledge, however long I can do it, I’m going to do it.”
This week’s episode of NXT ended with Montana getting into a scuffle with current champ D’Angelo and recent brand arrival Grayson Waller. With a few weeks until the show’s next Premium Live Event (PLE), Heatwave, it seems all three are on a collision course.
