Report: Glenn Jacobs considered ‘top candidate’ for potential interim Senator role

Glenn Jacobs is reportedly being considered for a role in the U.S. Senate.

If a series of events goes the right way for Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn this fall, she’ll be in a new position and picking her successor in the Senate. And, according to an Axios report, Jacobs is one of her top options to fill that potential open seat.

Blackburn is currently running for Governor of Tennessee, with an election scheduled for November. If she wins the election, Blackburn will give up her role as Senator and plans to appoint her replacement.

Jacobs, the current Knox County Mayor, is reportedly a “top candidate” for replacement, per Axios. However, Blackburn’s campaign manager denies that such a list of contenders has been formed yet.

“She has been very clear there will be no discussions about a potential replacement until the appropriate time,” Blackburn’s campaign manager said.

If Jacobs were to be appointed for the role, he would be serving a shorter term than usual for a Senator. Finishing up the remaining time in Blackburn’s latest term, Jacobs would have to run for re-election in 2028 to keep the position.

Blackburn won the Republican primary for the 2026 Tennessee Governor election earlier this week, receiving 43 percent of the party’s vote.

Jacobs has been the mayor of Knox County since 2018, where he has won two elections under the Republican banner. Jacobs is best known by wrestling fans as Kane, his top pseudonym during a lengthy WWE career.
