A new Mexican National Middleweight Champion was crowned at CMLL’s Noche de Campeones (Night of Champions).
Guerrero Maya Jr.’s three-plus-year title reign was ended by Rey Pegasus on Friday night at Arena México.
The match saw Pegasus get into his groove with lots of springboard offense, although he had some slip-ups, including a head scissors attempt sending Maya Jr. off the turnbuckle. Pegasus hit a Tornillo off the middle rope to the floor and a One-Winged Angel inside before a beautiful step-up springboard moonsault to score the pin at 11:17.
Guerrero Maya Jr. has held the title since July 2023, when he won the vacant title after Templario gave it up. It represented the third-longest reign in the history of the championship, which dates to the creation of EMLL in 1933. El Santo held the belt from September 1956 until April 1963 and had a second reign by Santo from June 1963 until June 1967, which are the two longest.
Rey Pegasus has been wrestling since 2021.
