Yota Tsuji moved into pole position in the G1 Climax 35 A Block by defeating Oleg Boltin on Sunday.

The action took place in front of 2,162 fans at Port Messe Nagoya Exhibition Hall 1 in Nagoya.

Tsuji’s victory, his fourth of the tournament, places him at eight points as the block reaches its midway point. Boltin controlled the early portion of the match with a Boltin Shake and a Boston Crab. But Tsuji turned the tide with a tope suicida that sent Oleg into the crowd. After both men exchanged heavy offense, Tsuji hit a final Gene Blaster to secure the win.

Later, in the main event, Ryohei Oiwa defeated NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi. After a back-and-forth contest, Oiwa countered an inside cradle from Tanahashi and hit a lariat, dubbed The Grip, for the pinfall victory. The win moves Oiwa into a four-way tie for second place with six points.

Yuya Uemura also moved to six points with a victory over EVIL. Uemura overcame constant interference from House of Torture members Don Fale and Dick Togo, including a chair shot to his back. Uemura neutralized the outside threats with a dive and defeated EVIL with a bridged Deadbolt Suplex.

SANADA defeated Taichi in a match featuring extensive outside involvement. After Yoshinobu Kanemaru pulled the referee from the ring, SANADA delivered a low blow. Young Lion Masatora Yasuda prevented SANADA from using a guitar, but Kanemaru sprayed whiskey in Taichi’s face, allowing SANADA to hit Taichi with the guitar and grab the win.

In the night’s other A Block match, Callum Newman picked up an upset victory over David Finlay. After withstanding a prolonged assault from Finlay, Newman countered a powerbomb attempt into a hurricanrana for the pin.
