John Cena will square off against Logan Paul when his retirement tour heads through France later this month.
Paul and Cena are expected to face off at WWE Clash In Paris at the Paris La Defense Arena on August 31, as confirmed on this week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown.
The match was made after Paul answered an open challenge from Cena, who said he’s taking on all comers in his final dozen appearances before officially retiring from wrestling. While recently attacked by Brock Lesnar, it seems Cena’s rivalry with the recently returned talent will continue at a later date.
Paul said that he wants to face Cena in a “French-speaking” location, trying to get the Smackdown crowd in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to hope that they’d be treated to the singles match between the two later that night. He later made it clear that he was instead focused on having the matchup at Clash In Paris in a few weeks. Cena later accepted the matchup after a brawl.
In a preview of the upcoming bout, Cena teamed with Cody Rhodes to take on Paul and Drew McIntyre in the main event of Smackdown. While Cena came close to a pinfall win, the bout came to an abrupt disqualification end after a low blow from Paul.
The upcoming bout will be the first and most likely only one-on-one match to take place between Cena and Paul.
