Kris Statlander successfully defended the AEW Women’s World Championship against Mercedes Mone at AEW Full Gear.
The victory marks Statlander’s second successful defense against a high-profile challenger since winning the title, while handing Mone her second loss in attempts to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Mone entered the arena accompanied by shirtless men carrying her extensive collection of championship belts, contrasting with Statlander’s entrance from a crashed spaceship prop.
The challenger targeted Statlander’s left arm early in the match, capitalizing after the champion missed a 450 Splash and rolled to the floor in pain. Mone executed a Meteora off the apron and drove Statlander into the steel steps to further damage the limb.
Mone controlled a significant portion of the contest, at one point executing 14 consecutive suplexes to represent each of the championships she currently holds. However, she missed a subsequent Frog Splash, allowing Statlander to mount a comeback.
The action spilled to the outside again later in the match when Statlander caught a diving Mone and countered with a Blue Thunder Bomb on the floor.
Back inside, the two traded submission attempts, with Statlander escaping Mone’s application of the Statement Maker. Statlander then executed an avalanche rib breaker from the top rope for a near fall.
After a series of reversals where both competitors attempted their finishing maneuvers, Statlander avoided a head scissors attempt and connected with the Saturday Night Fever to secure the pinfall victory.
