Winter is Coming is Coming

AEW Dynamite kicked off with a face-to-face between AEW World and Trios Champion Samoa Joe and challenger Eddie Kingston. Tony Schiavone noted that everyone else was barred from ringside for this segment, and Joe immediately demanded that Tony leave the ring. Joe explained that he wanted Hook to live “on the other side with the third-place people”. He continued, saying Eddie had never fulfilled his potential. Eddie responded, saying that Joe was a sellout and that he wanted the Samoa Joe who ruled Ring of Honor; he would eat him alive next week at Winter is Coming.

Backstage, the rest of The Opps cut a promo challenging Dark Order to a Trios Eliminator match and noted that they know that they are Hangman’s friends.

PAC vs. Okada

The first match of the evening was a Gold League match in the Continental Classic, pitting two heels against each other in Pac and Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada. Bryan Danielson noted on commentary that Pac and Okada had met before in Okada’s first PPV match, but Okada took over 21 minutes to win, which would be a draw under C2 rules with a 20-minute time limit.

The finish of the match saw Pac hit a Super Brainbuster on Okada, followed by a clothesline and the Brutalizer – the same way he defeated Darby Allin at Full Gear – but Okada rolled backward while in the submission maneuver to steal the pin. This match was about as good as expected.

Backstage, TNT Champion Mark Briscoe cut a promo addressing Daniel Garcia, noting they were 1-1 and that Garcia was the last TNT Champion. Briscoe challenged Garcia to a title match at Winter is Coming in Cardiff, Wales, on December 13th.

A video from earlier in the day was shown, with Ricochet saying he had to put his phone on do not disturb because every promotion wanted him to come and defend his National Championship. He then addressed his opponent for this Friday at Ring of Honor Final Battle, Dalton Castle. He also said Saturday on Collision that he will defend his title, but didn’t announce who that would be.

The Conglomeration was interviewed and asked about the Blue League match between Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong this Saturday on Collision. Strong reiterated that he wasn’t in the group and he was going to beat his ass this Saturday. Cassidy suggested no chops for the match, and Strong pushed past Orange, calling him an idiot.

Footage was shown from last Wednesday after Dynamite, of Darby Allin in a hospital bed. Excalibur said he was not cleared to compete, and an update would be announced this Saturday on Collision.

Fletcher vs. Knight

Next up was another match in the Gold League of the Continental Classic, with Kyle Fletcher taking on Kevin Knight. The story here was that both men had won their first matches, so whoever won this one would pull ahead. After a commercial break, Knight nailed Fletcher with an Okada-esque dropkick.

The match continued, and both men exchanged near-falls as the crowd chanted, “This is awesome.” Knight then set Fletcher up in the Tree of Woe and hit a Coast-to-Coast from the opposite corner. The crowd then bit on every near fall until Fletcher hit his Sheer Drop Brainbuster for the win. Kyle Fletcher now leads the Gold League with six points.

After the match, Don Callis got on the mic, and Hechicero and Mark Davis walked out to the ring with bags of money from Full Gear. Strangely, the show cut to a commercial mid-promo. The show returned, and Callis was still talking, addressing the Young Bucks. Callis said they have the Bucks’ money and to come and take it from them. This brought out the Bucks, who took out the three members of the Callis family. Okada then appeared and beat down Matt and Nick until Jurassic Express ran down to help, but the Family also outnumbered them. Finally, Kenny Omega appeared and chased off the heels, getting physical with Okada in the process. Also noteworthy is that El Clon now has a ridiculous-looking black-and-red full-body outfit with a “C” on it.

A video featuring Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale showed they’ve been through a lot together and were ready to become the first-ever AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Women’s Tag Team Championship Semi-Final

Next was the Semi-Final in the Women’s Tag Team Championship match, which was decided to be a Holiday Hardcore Deathmatch. It was explained there were no rules and no tags in this match as Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa, aka the Timeless Love Bombs, took on Marina Shafir & Megan Bayne. Early on, Storm broke a champagne bottle over the head of Shafir and stabbed Bayne in the forehead with its remnants. Bayne then struggled to double-suplex both Storm and Shirakawa simultaneously, and it looked like Mina landed awkwardly on her wrist, which she had injured earlier in the year.

Things continued fast and furious with Toni Storm hitting a Storm Zero on Megan Bayne through a table from the ring apron. Shafir caught Shirakawa in Mother’s Milk, but was able to stab Shafir in the head with a broken candy cane to escape. Mina then hit a slingblade on Shafir on a chair, but Bayne recovered to break up the pin attempt. Storm hit another Storm Zero onto Shafir’s midsection as Santa Claus appeared with a gift, and it was revealed to be Luther as Storm hit a suplex on Shafir on thumbtacks and followed that up with a shoe shot and roll-up for the win.

A promo package aired with Triangle of Madness and Kris Statlander & Jamie Hayter challenging Skye Blue and Julia Hart to a match in Cardiff. Hayter finished up by saying that after that match, she and Statlander would “have a chat”.

Dark Order was shown backstage heading to their Trios match when Hangman walked by, and they told him not to ruin it for them. Hangman agreed but said that the second the match was over, they were his.

Backstage, Mercedes Mone was interviewed and said she’s already beaten Red Velvet, but she’ll do it again Friday night at ROH Final Battle. Mone said she would appear on Honor Club tomorrow night.

Stokely and FTR cut a backstage promo, addressing the Bang Bang Gang. FTR called them “Billy’s Boy and Mr. Storm” and cited their history, took their tag titles, and beat them in just under an hour at one of the first Collisions. Dax and Cash then dared Austin and Juice to show up this Saturday on Collision.

Trios Championship Eliminator Match

The next match was the Trios Champions, The Opps, taking on Dark Order in their first AEW appearance in quite some time. The Opps jumped Dark Order before the bell and took early control.

After a commercial break, Dark Order briefly gained control, but Powerhouse Hobbs decimated Evil Uno and picked up the pin with a Spinebuster. Hangman then appeared from the crowd and attacked The Opps with his chain. Hangman went for the Buckshot on Hobbs, but security stopped him. The Opps then retreated as Hangman beat up security. Later backstage, Page cut an impassioned promo about how Hook cost him the world title. He then challenged Hobbs and Shibata to a tag team match next week, and he would not be alone.

The Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royal was announced for two weeks from tonight, with the final three weeks from tonight. The winner of the final will go on to receive a World Championship match at Dynamite Maximum Carnage on January 14th in Arizona.

Backstage, Okada blamed Takeshita for not helping with the Young Bucks earlier in the night. Takeshita then appeared and got into Okada’s face. Renee Paquette then asked the question that everyone watching AEW was wondering about: Why didn’t Okada put the Unified title up for grabs in the Continental Classic? Callis said that the Unified Championship represented the International and Continental titles, and he didn’t need to put the International title on the line in the tournament. Fletcher said that the International title wasn’t going anywhere as Takeshita looked away.

Mox vs. Claudio

The main event of the evening was a Continental Classic Blue League match featuring Death Rider vs. Death Rider in Jon Moxley vs. newly crowned CMLL World Champion Claudio Castagnoli. As the match began, Marina Shafir was still at ringside, and Referee Bryce Remsburg forced her to leave. The two stablemates started with a technical battle, but Moxley quickly switched to aggressive offense as he couldn’t keep up with Castagnoli.

After an ad break, Moxley was bleeding from his forehead as Claudio executed the giant swing and then applied the Sharpshooter, followed by the Crossface. It was noted by the commentary team that Moxley had recently tapped out several times, and Claudio clearly was aware of that.

The two continued back and forth with Moxley kicking out of the Riccola Bomb as he continued to leak blood everywhere. Justin Roberts announced that five minutes remained when, suddenly, Castagnoli hit a running uppercut and picked up the win. The rest of the Death Riders came to the ring, and it was announced that Mox would face Konosuke Takeshita this Saturday on Collision as the show ended.
