Buddy Matthews has provided an update on his recovery from ankle surgery, noting that he is currently dealing with “nerve issues.”

The House of Black member posted to his Instagram Stories on Friday night, answering a fan question regarding his rehabilitation progress.

Matthews stated that the recovery has been a “long process” and that he is experiencing numbness. The posted photo shows the performer wearing pneumatic compression boots, which help increase circulation and reduce swelling.

It’s been a long process! Still having nerve issues with a lot of numbness! But accepted that it’s gonna take time. Really thought I’d have returned to the ring by now but can only control what I can.

The 37-year-old underwent surgery to repair an injured ankle in early August. Matthews has been sidelined since the injury, which he suffered at AEW Grand Slam Australia on February 15.

Matthews, a former AEW World Trios Champion as part of the House of Black, has been with the promotion since February 2022. Prior to joining AEW, the Australian performer wrestled for WWE under the name Buddy Murphy, where he held the Cruiserweight, Raw Tag Team, and NXT Tag Team Championships.

No timetable has been given for his return to the ring.
