NJPW has announced that Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay will attend the retirement ceremony for Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom.
The farewell will take place at the Tokyo Dome on January 4, following Tanahashi’s final match. He is set to face Kazuchika Okada at the event.
News of the appearance was confirmed on the official NJPW website on Wednesday. The promotion stated that the two AEW stars will be present to send off the NJPW President to “close out” Wrestle Kingdom 20.
Tanahashi is set to face Okada in the main event of the show, which has been declared a sell-out. It will mark the end of the 49-year-old’s 26-year career.
Omega shares a storied history with Tanahashi, including a feud over the IWGP Intercontinental Championship in 2016.
Ospreay has credited Tanahashi as a key opponent during his transition to the heavyweight division following the G1 Climax 29. He noted that he took the veteran’s mantra of “attack for the next generation” to heart.
The three wrestlers were last united in August 2025 at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in London. Ospreay is currently rehabbing after neck surgery he underwent in September.
NJPW stated that other guests will be part of the farewell but did not name additional participants. Tickets for the January 4 event at the Tokyo Dome are sold out.
