Another Week, Another Bounty

AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage from Phoenix kicked off with a video from earlier in the day where Samoa Joe said he put out a bounty on Hangman Adam Page, and Bounty Hunter Bryan Keith was coming for it. Keith said he would collect tonight.

Darby Allin vs. Pac

The first match of the night saw Darby Allin taking on The Death Riders’ Pac, who told the rest of his faction that he needed to do this alone. Allin hit a suicide dive onto Pac before he could even get into the ring, and the action spilled into the crowd before the bell rang. This led to Allin hitting a Coffin Drop off the second level of seating onto Pac below.

The two returned to the ringside area, and Pac executed a belly-to-belly suplex onto the ring steps. Finally, the two entered the rin,g and the match officially began. Pac was in full control as the show went to commercial break.

Upon return, Allin was beginning to garner a comeback until Pac hit an Awesome Bomb on Darby from inside the ring onto the ramp on the outside. Pac then seemed to have re-injured his ankle, which Darby immediately took advantage of, hitting Pac with a Coffin Drop from the top rope to the outside. Allin hit a second one onto Pac on the ring apron.

Pac then pulled Referee Paul Turner between them, knocking him out. Darby applied the Scorpion Death Lock, and Pac tapped out, but Turner was still down. Wheeler Yuta appeared with a chair, but Allin fought him off. Darby set Pac’s ankle up in the chair and hit a Coffin Splash onto it. Allin then again applied the Scorpion Death Lock, and Pac tapped out just as Paul Turner woke up.

Hangman Adam Page vs. Bryan Keith

Next was the match set up at the top of the show with Bryan Keith attempting to collect the bounty on Adam Page set by Samoa Joe. It was noted that Keith’s first-ever AEW match was against Page. Keith was accompanied to the ringside by Big Bill, and the match began with Page distracted by Bill’s presence. This continued into an ad break, with Bill attacking Page on the outside when Referee Aubrey Edwards was distracted by Keith.

Bill continued to get involved until Swerve appeared from the crowd, choking Bill with his chain and allowing Page to hit the Buckshot Lariat for the win. After the match, Page cut a promo saying that Samoa Joe isn’t man enough to fight him himself. Swerve warned that he and Hangman would be coming after MJF if he were able to defeat Bandido later tonight. This brought out the returning Kenny Omega. Omega said that all three of them had something to prove, and he was going for the world title after he racked up some wins. Hangman said, “May the best man win,” if they cross paths, but Swerve just walked off.

Before Omega could leave the ring, Don Callis emerged with Josh Alexander, Rocky Romero, and Lance Archer. Callis suggested Omega face Alexander, since Omega was the one who broke Kota Ibushi’s leg. Omega agreed and suggested they do it tonight, but Callis declined, setting the match for next week instead.

Another Standby Match

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviewed Brody King but was interrupted by Jon Cruz. King informed Cruz that they had a standby match tonight, and Cruz freaked out, running away. After a commercial, Brody fought Cruz out to the ring, and Brody decimated him in under forty seconds. Brody got on the mic and wished Bandido well in his title match, and again asked to be his first challenger.

4-Way Tornado Tag #1 Contenders’ Match

Next up was Davis & Doyle vs. JetSpeed vs. The Young Bucks vs. Gates of Agony, with the winners getting a future tag title shot at FTR. Ricochet and Don Callis (recent business associates) were on commentary for this match, which began with the two face teams executing stereo dives to the outside on the heels. The action was fast and furious in this one, with Davis & Doyle looking like they’ve been a tag team for years.

At one point, Toa Liona impressed even Ricochet by hitting a Moonsault to the outside. Again, all four faces hit moves off all four turnbuckles on all four heels. GOA hit the Fall From Grace on Nick Jackson, but Kevin Knight made the save. Toa Liona then stacked both Youn Bucks on his shoulders, only to have Speedball Mike Bailey hit the Ultima Weapon onto all three from the top rope.

The Young Bucks hit the BTE Trigger, but Ricochet interfered and pulled Referee Rick Knox out of the ring. Jack Perry appeared from out of nowhere and attacked Ricochet, fighting him off through the crowd. Back in the ring, Davis and Doyle took Speedball and powerbombed him out of the ring onto a bunch of opponents on the floor. Mark Davis then hit a piledriver on Kevin Knight to win. This brought out FTR, and the two teams brawled with the crowd seemingly unsure how to react with two heel teams facing off.

After a break, AEW honored the passing of Bob Weir, founding member of the Grateful Dead and a good friend of Tony Khan.

Sky Flight cut a backstage promo calling out both The Don Callis Family and The Death Riders.

Triangle of Madness vs. Cosmic Babes of Wrath

Next was Kris Statlander and The Babes of Wrath taking on Triangle of Madness. Willow and Cameron showed off their tag team maneuvers as the match began.

After a commercial break, Triangle of Madness got the heat on Cameron until she finally made the hot tag to Kris Statlander. The two teams’ momentum swung back and forth, with both nearly getting the win. Statlander then took a spear for Willow and was pinned by Thekla after a stomp.

A backstage interview with JetSpeed was interrupted by Swerve, who complimented both members before walking away. Then it was Hangman’s turn, who suggested that they face The Opps for the Trios titles this Saturday on Collision.

The Rascalz were announced as coming soon to AEW.

AEW World Championship

The main event saw 6-time Dynamite Diamond Ring Winner and AEW World Champion MJF taking on the current Dynamite Diamond Ring holder and ROH World Champion Bandido. There was no Abuela sighted at ringside. The match began with MJF doing everything he could to avoid Bandido’s high-flying offense and Bandido trying to avoid MJF’s trickery.

MJF then began targeting Bandido’s arm as the show went to its final break. Upon return, Bandido gained momentum, hitting a giant dive over the top rope onto MJF on the outside. Bandido then one-upped himself by diving off the top rope onto MJF, who was on the opposite side of the barricade near the front row of the crowd.

Bandido attempted the 21 Plex, but it was blocked, and MJF’s Heatseeker was also blocked as the momentum swung. Bandido then hit a Shooting Star Plex on MJF for a two-count. Things kicked into high gear with near-falls, flying back and forth.

Bandido finally hit the 21 Plex but was unable to hold onto MJF for a pin attempt. MJF then applied the Salt of the Earth, and then shifted to the Lebell Lock, and Bandido passed out. Danielson on commentary, explained that the Salt of the Earth was an armbar, whereas the Lebell Lock hits a nerve and is a more intense submission.

After the match, MJF got on the mic and said that, as much as it pains him to admit it, he now realizes that Bandido will be an AEW World Champion one day. With that, MJF hit Bandido with the title and went to take his mask off when Brody King made the save, chasing MJF off.
