Claudio Castagnoli is heading to Arena Mexico to defend his CMLL World Heavyweight Championship this weekend.

The AEW star issued an open challenge on social media recently, calling for any “young luchador” to step up and face him as part of this Friday’s CMLL card in Mexico City.

“If you thought that I would rest after my successful defence against Roderick Strong, you would be wrong,” Castagnoli said. “It’s time again for my pilgrimage, La Catedral, Arena Mexico, this Friday, January 30th, to defend my CMLL World Championship again. Now, if you’re a young luchador who thinks they have what it takes to take this away from me, this Friday is your chance.”

As mentioned in his promo, Castagnoli just recently defended his CMLL belt against Roderick Strong on the latest episode of AEW Collision.

The upcoming booking will be Castagnoli’s return to Mexico after a little over a month away from CMLL. His last appearance for the promotion saw him defend against Ultimo Guerrero in December.

Castagnoli initially captured the belt back in November with a 14-minute victory over Gran Guerrero.
