NJPW’s two junior heavyweight belts will be on the line as part of an anniversary card next month.
Both the singles and tag junior heavyweight titles will be defended at the promotion’s March 6 show at the Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, an event celebrating the promotion’s 54th anniversary.
House of Torture’s DOUKI will put his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship on the line in the main event, taking on Master Wato. The matchup will be the first meeting between these two since late 2024, when DOUKI retained in a 22-minute battle as part of that year’s Power Struggle show.
Wato has earned tag gold over the years but is still chasing that elusive first-ever run with the main junior heavyweight title, something he will get another chance to possibly obtain in a little under a month’s time.
Earlier on the card, the TMDK duo of Kosei Fujita and Robbie Eagles will defend their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against Robbie X and Taiji Ishimori.
The Ichiban Sweet Boys earned their belts last month at New Year Dash, winning in a four-way bout for the titles. The team of Robbie and Ishimori, who were finalists in last year’s Super Junior Tag League, will be getting their second-ever two-on-two title opportunity as a duo. Their last title shot coincidentally also came against Fujita and Eagles, losing at last year’s Sakura Genesis show.
Along with the recently announced New Japan Cup opening round matches, here’s how NJPW’s anniversary show looks currently:
- YOSHI-HASHI vs. Jake Lee (New Japan Cup Opening Round)
- Callum Newman vs. OSKAR (New Japan Cup Opening Round)
- Kosei Fujita & Robbie Eagles vs. Robbie X & Taiji Ishimori (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships)
- DOUKI vs. Master Wato (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship)
