Sweet revenge for Dragon Bane and Alejandro on Sunday afternoon also earned them a high-stakes title shot.
The babyface duo of Bane and Alejandro overcame rivals Alpha Wolf and Kai Fujimura at today’s Korakuen Hall card in Tokyo, making them this year’s Noah Jr. Tag League winners.
While the victory lined the duo up for a title shot in a week’s time, it notably also gave them some long-awaited payback against a pair of wrestlers who betrayed them just earlier this year.
Alpha Wolf shockingly split from Bane in January, cheating in a one-on-one title match against him, then aligning with the massive Team 2000X faction. Fujimura did the same thing only weeks later, splitting mid-match from tag partner Alejandro.
After losing to Alpha Wolf and Fujimura during block action last month during the tournament, Bane and Alejandro were able to get their first win back against the ex-allies on Sunday afternoon.
The win didn’t come easy Bane and Alejandro, who not only had to get past their opponents, but the significant amount of assistance they received from Team 2000X teammates at ringside.
A near fall spot mid-way through the match for Alejandro was stopped by Yoshi Tatsu, who yanked the referee out of the ring to prevent a pin from being counted. This moment allowed the entire group’s entourage to storm the ring and attack Alejandro.
But the numbers advantage for the heel group couldn’t hold down Bane and Alejandro. After Bane took out Team 2000X at ringside with a Shooting Star Press, Alejandro came down with a Corkscrew Splash in the ring for the pinfall victory.
Following the tournament win, Wolf and Alejandro challenged GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Daga and Daiki Odashima to a match. The babyface champs came to the ring and accepted the challenge, setting up a match for NOAH’s March 8 card inside the Yokohama Budokan.
