New IWGP Junior Heavyweight tag champions were crowned on Friday’s New Japan Anniversary card.
The 54th anniversary in Tokyo saw Robbie X claim gold for the first time in Japan by winning the IWGP junior heavyweight tag titles with Taiji Ishimori.
The pair unseated the Ichiban Sweet Boys of Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita after fifteen minutes at Ota City Gymnasium.
The nonstop pace featured numerous highlights. Robbie X executed a backflip into a Liger Bomb as the crowd roared for the continuous action. The champions attempted the Interceptor, but Robbie X countered with a Poisonrana on both men and a handspring cutter.
Ishimori took out Eagles on the floor with a Golden Triangle moonsault and left Robbie X to secure the pin on Fujita after hitting the X Express.
It is Ishimori’s fourth reign with the belts (the first time since 2021), but the first time teaming with Robbie X.
The Ichiban Sweet Boys won the belts on January 5 at New Year Dash.
After the match, Francesco Akira and Jakob Austin Young established themselves as the first challenger by attacking the winners. It included Akira wrapping a chair around the neck of Robbie X and smashing it with another chair. Akira said it was what he planned to do to Hiromi Takahashi in Osaka last month.
