Swerve Strickland had a brief face-to-face with rival Kenny Omega on Sunday night, shortly after a physical singles win against Brody King.
Strickland picked up a 14-minute win over King as part of AEW Revolution on Sunday night, beating him after scoring a trio of House Call head kicks. The bout included numerous breath-taking, high-risk spots, both inside and outside the ring.
Both wrestlers scored nasty moves onto an exposed part of the Crypto.com Arena’s floor at ringside. King landed a Black Hole Slam early on, then Strickland later connected with a Vertebreaker on the same spot of the exposed floor.
King attempted to make a comeback late in the fight, kicking out at one after taking a Swerve Stomp, but was put away just moments later by the trio of head kicks from Strickland.
Strickland attempted to inflict further pain on King during the post-match, bringing out a cinderblock to use. However, he was stopped by Omega, who hit the ring and caused Strickland to retreat.
Omega has some unfinished business with Strickland, who wrote him off TV last month after beating him in a physical AEW Dynamite headliner. Sunday was a return of sorts for Omega following a few weeks away.
A grudge match between King and Strickland was booked weeks ago, when King disputed Strickland’s claim as the next man in line for an AEW World Championship shot. The bout on Sunday was King’s second-ever time wrestling an AEW show in his home city of Los Angeles. He appeared on last year’s Revolution in LA, losing a title bout to Kazuchika Okada.
