MJF went to hell and back to retain his AEW World Championship on Sunday night.
MJF battled with Hangman Adam Page for a brutal 46 minutes to prevail in a Texas Death Match for AEW’s top title, closing out the promotion’s Revolution pay-per-view from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
The bloody battle, which included an almost endless list of weapons, saw MJF retain his title in the end. The result also meant that, due to a wager Page made in the lead-up to the fight, he can never challenge for the promotion’s top belt ever again.
Page utilized a dog collar late in the match, a decision which came back to bite him. With dog collars on both men, MJF reversed a Buckshot Lariat attempt from Page and instead hanged the former world champ off the ring ropes with the chain, doing so until he passed out completely.
The move kept Page down for the required 10-count needed to win under Texas Death Match rules, and sealed his fate, never being able to challenge for the world title in the future.
A plethora of weapons used earlier in the match included lighttubes, a jagged broom handle, barbed wire tables and chairs, broken glass, skewers, and a syringe, which, in one of the harder-to-watch moments of the match, saw MJF stab the needle through one of Page’s cheeks.
One of the big spots late in the match saw Page deliver a belly-to-belly suplex to MJF, sending them both off the venue’s stage and through a set of tables nearby.
The result is a big one for MJF, who was making his first pay-per-view appearance since capturing his title at Worlds End back in December. The two-time AEW World Champion earned his first one-on-one win against Page since 2019, when they met on the ninth-ever episode of AEW Dynamite. Their two more recent matchups, at last year’s Revolution and Forbidden Door cards, saw the bout go Page’s way.
Page was hoping to regain the AEW title, which he held for 133 days in 2025. He dropped the title last November to Samoa Joe at Full Gear, ending a reign which saw him beat Jon Moxley, MJF, Samoa Joe, and Kyle Fletcher along the way.
Page earned the title opportunity this weekend after winning a #1 contenders bout against Andrade El Idolo at Grand Slam: Australia.
Earlier in the night: Thekla retains, Will Ospreay & Ronda Rousey among numerous surprise appearances
Thekla closed out her trilogy with Kris Statlander on Sunday night, winning a best two out of three falls match to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship. After a distraction spot involving referee Paul Turner, Thekla was able to spear Statlander then score a pair of Curbstomps to earn her second fall of the match. Thekla’s first fall came due to a bending of the rules, grabbing a bottom rope while going for the pin.
In a night full of returns, the biggest was arguably the appearance of Will Ospreay, who has been out of the ring since last year’s Forbidden Door event. He attacked AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley shortly after the Death Riders member won a stellar 23-minute bout against Konosuke Takeshita, closing out their trilogy, which started during last year’s Continental Classic.
AEW revealed during Sunday’s show that CMLL star Mistico has inked a dual contract between both promotions, officially putting him on the AEW roster. The news was broken after Mistico won the AEW World Trios Championships alongside Kevin Knight and Speedball Bailey, beating The Don Callis Family’s Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis.
Former UFC World Champion and ex-WWE talent Ronda Rousey made an unexpected cameo on Sunday night, appearing shortly after Toni Storm defeated Marina Shafir in a nine-minute contest. Rousey goaded Storm into a face-to-face, allowing Shafir to knock out the ex-world champion with a cheapshot. Rousey is expected to make her return to MMA after nearly a decade away in May, facing Gina Carano in a Netflix-broadcasted card. It was announced during the broadcast that Storm and Shafir will rematch in a “No Holds Barred” match on Wednesday’s Dynamite.
The opening match of the main card saw FTR win a bloody 20-minute battle against long-time rivals the Young Bucks to retain their AEW World Tag Team Championships. The main headline of the segment came after the match, when Adam Copeland and Christian Cage made their long-awaited in-ring return and made it clear that they’re going after their tag titles.
Swerve Strickland won a physical 14-minute contest against LA’s own Brody King, putting him away after a trio of House Call head kicks. The bout had many gnarly spots, including a Vertebreaker from Strickland onto the arena’s exposed floor at one point. He attempted to further inflict damage on King with a cinderblock during the post-match, but was stopped by Kenny Omega, who returned for the first time since he was taken out of action by Strickland last month.
Bandido and Andrade El Idolo had a high spot on the card, battling third from the top in their one-on-one grudge match. They went over 20 minutes in total, a stellar showcase of both men which ended with Andrade countering a 21-Plex into a spinning back elbow, then scoring an avalanche DM for the pinfall.
Recent AEW signings The Dogs (Gabe Kidd, Clark Connors & David Finlay) were unsuccessful in their first pay-per-view match, losing to the trio of Orange Cassidy, Darby Allin, and Roderick Strong. Kidd found himself attached to the venue’s stage by Allin, making it a three-on-two fight and allowing Strong to win the match by scoring End of Heartache.
One of the quickest matches of the night saw Megan Bayne and Lena Kross end the inaugural AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship reign of Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron, beating them in just five minutes. The quickness of the win came due to an attack Kross and Bayne had given Nightingale earlier in the night, jumping her after she defended her TBS title against Kross as part of the Zero Hour card.
Apart from Nightingale’s TBS title win, the Zero Hour pre-show also included Jack Perry winning the AEW National Championship in a 21-man Blackjack battle royal, and Big Boom AJ beating The Infantry alongside QT Marshall.
