Shortly after AEW’s first pay-per-view of the year, Revolution, went off air from Los Angeles, some of the top names from the event, as well as AEW owner Tony Khan, appeared at a post-show scrum. Here are some of the highlights from the broadcast, which can be viewed below.
Tony Khan talks Ronda Rousey’s ‘status,’ Grand Slam: Mexico sequel and more
Tony Khan chose not to be specific about the “status” of Ronda Rousey in AEW following her surprise appearance on Sunday night following Marina Shafir vs. Toni Storm. However, he said that Rousey is “always welcome here.”
Khan said that AEW is on the upswing currently, and considered such momentum “perfect timing” considering the pending merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount.
When asked if he has considered hosting a pay-per-view in Mexico, Khan seemed open to the idea but said he’s more focused on bringing back Dynamite to the country first. He mentioned that he’s currently “in conversations” about a second-ever Grand Slam: Mexico, following up on last year’s event in Arena Mexico alongside CMLL.
Khan had lots of praise for Andrade’s new direction, character-wise and gave credit to him for coming up with the ideas.
“When he told me some of the stuff he wanted to do [when he returned], it was not what I was expecting, and I love it,” Khan said about Andrade. “I think it’s awesome. The new presentation, these are his ideas that he brought to me.”
A member of the press pitched the idea of AEW heading to SoFi Stadium, which Khan said was “not a crazy thought.”
Khan said AEW is making Continental Classic tracksuits.
Jack Perry, Gabe Kidd and others speak
Along with Khan, many others who appeared on Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view spoke.
Jack Perry, who won the AEW National Championship on the Zero Hour broadcast, spoke about how it was “bittersweet” to be back in the Crypto.com Arena, saying that he likely hadn’t been back in the venue since the last time he was with his father, Luke Perry, who passed away in 2019. “The person who I wish could be here the most wasn’t here,” he said, before describing the perspective that gives him about who he still has in his life currently.
Gabe Kidd appeared uninvited at the presser to address critics who argued his loyalty to NJPW a year ago has aged poorly: “It doesn’t concern you.”
“I don’t care about New Japan Pro Wrestling,” he continued. “F*** New Japan Pro Wrestling. F*** that old cripple, Hiroshi Tanahashi. F*** all the Young Boys, f*** every single one of them. And f*** Darby Allin the most.”
Kidd demanded a coffin match on Wednesday against Allin.
When asked if he is part of The Conglomeration, Roderick Strong said, “Maybe.”
And AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla expressed interest in her Triangle of Madness teammates, the Sisters of Sin, chasing the women’s tag titles.
