Callum Newman received his crowning moment when he defeated Yuya Uemaura in the finals of the New Japan Cup. The United Empire leader became the youngest New Japan Cup winner in NJPW history at 23 years old.
Newman and Uemura had an intense match, with both wrestlers selling the grind of the New Japan Cup. Newman called back to his previous matches when Zane Jay came to distract the referee following a Poisonrana and Excalibur. Newman tried to hit Excalibur on Uemura onto a chair, but he avoided it. Newman also called back to his first round matchup when he hit a low blow and Prince’s Curse, but only a nearfall. He then hit Excalibur and Prince’s Curse again, but Uemura kicked out at two again. Uemura regained momentum when he caught Newman with a German Suplex. Uemura then used Hiroshi Tanahashi’s moves: a Dragon Suplex and High Fly Flow, but Newman kicked out at two. Newman countered another High Fly Flow attempt and won with Make Way.
Also on the show, Satoshi Kojima missed the event due to an injury. Masatora Yasuda replaced him in his trios match with Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi.
Konosuke Takeshita defended his NJPW World TV Title in what was scheduled as a mystery opponent. Chase Owens and Yujiro Takahashi answered the challenge, and Takahashi beat Owens in rock-paper-scissors to challenge Takeshita. Takahashi wrestled in his hometown, so the crowd was on his side throughout the match, but Takeshita won after fending off Owens’ run-ins. After the match, Takeshita called out Shota Umino for a future title match, wanting to avenge his loss in last year’s G1 Climax.
