NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 33 Night Two Results: Jun Kasai makes his tournament debut

Night two of NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors 33 tournament on Saturday included hardcore legend Jun Kasai’s debut in the competition.

The event took place at the Esforta Arena Hachioji.

B Block highlights

El Desperado secured a submission victory over longtime rival Taiji Ishimori in Saturday’s main event. Desperado immediately targeted Ishimori’s knee to soften him up for a submission. Ishimori responded by landing a Superstar Overhead and diving to the outside. Ishiori then exposed a turnbuckle and launched an assault on Desperado’s shoulder. After escaping a Bone Lock, Desperado countered a Bloody Cross attempt directly into the Numero Dos to force a tap.

SHO remained undefeated by utilizing House of Torture tactics to defeat Robbie Eagles. The match fell into chaos before the opening bell when SHO ambushed Eagles from the crowd. Eagles endured chair shots and repeated strikes to the ribs. Following interference involving a wrench, SHO connected with the Shock Arrow onto a metal plate to secure the win.

Daisuke Sasaki tricked KUSHIDA into removing his boots to steal an early advantage. The DDT representative heavily targeted the exposed ankle with turnbuckles and chair shots. KUSHIDA fought back but Sasaki eventually trapped him in a crossface for the win.

YOH overcame Jakob Austin Young to secure his first points of the tournament. He survived a Falcon Arrow from to shift momentum before hitting the Direct Drive to secure the victory.

A Block highlights

Kosei Fujita defeated Nick Wayne in the semi-main event to maintain his undefeated start. The first-time meeting saw both men trade heavy strikes and stiff suplexes. Wayne survived an Abandon Hope attempt and hit a Prodigy Plex for a dramatic near fall. Fujita ultimately countered Wayne’s World smoothly into a Thrill Ride to gain another two points.

In an anticipated encounter, Titan overcame hardcore veteran Jun Kasai in a clash of wildly different styles. Kasai invited the luchador to the outside where chairs awaited. He aggressively targeted Titan’s mask and attempted skewer attacks. The Mexican star survived a superplex and a brainbuster before trapping Kasai in a Llave Inmortal to win.

Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Master Wato in just over two minutes. The veteran tried to bait Wato into a handshake before rolling him up. Wato escaped, but Taguchi stole the victory by trapping his opponent in a cradle.

Robbie X weathered an aggressive start from Francesco Akira to hit the Xecution for his first win. Akira missed a Fireball attempt, allowing Robbie to capitalize.

Valiente Jr. also earned his first tournament points by hitting the Valiente Special to put away Daiki Nagai.

The tournament continues on Sunday, May 17.
