El Desperado secured the sole lead in the B Block on the tenth night of New Japan’s Best of the Super Juniors 33 tournament.
Saturday’s action took place at the Takaoka Techno Dome in Toyama, featuring five B Block matches.
Desperado became the first competitor in the block to reach 10 points by defeating KUSHIDA in the semi-main event. KUSHIDA controlled the early grappling, but Desperado utilized steel chairs on the outside to target his opponent’s knees. After a sequence of submissions and heavy strikes, Desperado hit a reverse Tiger Driver and the Pinche Loco for the win.
The result mathematically eliminates KUSHIDA from advancing in the tournament.
Taiji Ishimori overcame SHO in the night’s main event to improve his record to 4-3. SHO targeted Ishimori’s ribs with a ring hammer and threw him into an exposed turnbuckle. After Yoshinobu Kanemaru attempted to interfere on SHO’s behalf, Unbound Company members Robbie X and Daiki Nagai made the save. Ishimori then connected with the Bloody Cross for the pinfall.
Robbie Eagles advanced to eight points by submitting Daisuke Sasaki. Sasaki inflicted early damage with a neckbreaker onto a steel chair on the floor. Eagles eventually fought out of a Crossover Hold and applied the Ron Miller Special, adding a flurry of kicks to force the tap.
YOH scored a victory over Yoshinobu Kanemaru in under four minutes. Kanemaru focused on YOH’s injured shoulder and attempted to use his whiskey spray following a referee bump. YOH countered and trapped his opponent in an inside cradle.
Jakob Austin Young kept his tournament hopes alive by defeating Hyo in the opening league contest. Young reversed a Samson Driver and grabbed the tights during a pinfall combination to secure the victory.
The tournament continues with action from both blocks on Tuesday, June 2, at Korakuen Hall.
