Kay Lee Ray (formerly Alba Fyre) explains WWE exit, says her contract expired with company

Kay Lee Ray made her return to independent wrestling last weekend, appearing for the first time since a multi-year WWE run under the name Alba Fyre.

For most wrestlers who exit the WWE roster, the departure comes with a 90-day non-compete clause. Since Ray left the company in April, such a clause would’ve prevented her from appearing on Friday’s Pro Wrestling EVE show, if she had one.

But those clauses are typically for talent who are cut from the roster before their contract expires, and Ray said recently that she was in a different position.

“My contract was up, and I knew it was coming up, and I did a decision of whether I wanted to stay or not,” Ray told the Daily Star, just moments after her return match in EVE. “I know some other people got fired, and they have a 90-day clause. Because mine was just [my] contract ending, it means I didn’t have the 90 days, and I was able to come and do this.”

In terms of what’s next in her career, Ray teased that she has ideas in the works currently that will be known soon.

“I’m sure now you’re going to start seeing some things appear. I’ve been speaking to a few people, so some things are gonna be going out. But, I’m kind of keeping that to myself. You’ll see more in the future.”
