The King, The Beast, & The Cell

Monday Night Raw from Atlantic City kicked off with Oba Femi, coming off winning the King of the Ring over Jey Uso this past weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Femi began to speak about making a choice of who he would face at SummerSlam when Brock Lesnar’s music hit, and he hit the stage with Paul Heyman in tow.

Lesnar said he doesn’t watch the show, and he had to rely on Heyman to tell him that when he’s not there, he calls Brock a “coward” and a “bitch”. He continued, saying he’s not good at promos, which is why he’s got Heyman. Lesnar said, “You know what they say, talk shit, get hit”. With that, Lesnar hit Femi with a low blow and an F5 before leaving. Femi got on the mic and called Lesnar a bitch again. Femi challenged Brock to a match at SummerSlam and Lesnar accepted with one caveat – it would be Hell in a Cell.

Heyman was arguing with Adam Pearce backstage about the Hell in a Cell challenge when Austin Theory interrupted, saying he didn’t know that Paul would be there. Heyman said, “Well, now you know,” and walked off. Pearce found Oba Femi, and Femi said the Championship would be there when he wanted it, so he was sure he wanted Lesnar at SummerSlam instead.

Rey Mysterio vs. Ethan Page

The first match of the night saw Rey Mysterio taking on Ethan Page with Michael Cole explaining that there were Intercontinental Championship implications for the winner. Early in the match, Ethan Page avoided a 619 attempt by Mysterio and dropped him back-first onto the top turnbuckle as the show went to commercial. Upon return, Page was in control as Rey attempted to mount a comeback. Mysterio went for another 619 attempt but took a boot to the face from Page instead. Finally, Rey successfully hit the 619 and followed that up with the Frog Splash for the win.

Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh entered Danhausen’s laboratory and took a New York Knicks frame addressed to Danhausen, hoping to lure him in. Before they left, they said they would wreck his lab.

Joe Hendry Concert

Joe Hendry was out next for his concert, but before he began, he introduced the new World Tag Team Champions, The Street Profits. The Profits thanked the fans for their support and shouted out Seth Rollins and Joe Hendry for their help with dispatching The Vision last week. Hendry performed a song in which he repurposed “Fire Logan Paul” for Austin Theory. Theory interrupted the song and cut a promo about the Profits stealing “his” tag titles. Theory announced that he got The Vision a rematch for the titles next week on Raw. Hendry challenged Theory to a match, and Michael Cole was incredulous that it would be happening.

The show went to commercial, and the match began with Theory jumping Hendry before the bell. After the break, Michael Cole explained that the rest of The Vision was not there tonight as they were all dealing with injuries. Hendry hit Theory with the Hit Single, which is just a discus lariat for a two-count. Michael Cole and Corey Graves got off on a tangent about how the wrestlers tell Cole the move names, and he says them. This was mindblowing to Graves for some reason. Meanwhile, Hendry hit the Standing Ovation for the win.

Raquel Rodriguez was backstage asking Adam Pearce for a shot at the Intercontinental title, and Pearce said that Maxxine Dupri was ahead of her in line. Pearce made a match between the two for later tonight. Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez entered, and Liv said she was worried about Iyo Sky and Danhausen’s curse. Rodriguez told her not to worry.

The Queen of the Sky

New Queen of the Ring Iyo Sky was out next and was swiftly interrupted by Liv Morgan, who blamed her loss on being cursed by Danhausen. Liv said she no longer respected Iyo and noted that Finn Balor, Stephanie Vaquer, and Rhea Ripley have all been taken down because of her. Rodriguez and Perez appeared, attempting to attack Iyo but getting quickly dispatched. Liv attempted to hit Oblivion but got taken out by Iyo as well. Iyo set up for the Over the Moonsault but was stopped and attacked by the trio. Liv hit Iyo with Oblivion and put on the Half Crab, as Iyo tapped out. Finally, officials appeared and stopped the attack.

LA Knight vs. Jimmy Uso

Next up was a rematch from last week with Jimmy Uso (accompanied by Jey) taking on LA Knight. Last week, Solo Sikoa interfered, attacking Jimmy and helping Knight win. Jey Uso sat down for commentary and admitted he was avoiding Roman Reigns backstage today after his loss to Oba Femi at Night of Champions. After an ad break, Jimmy Uso was in control when Knight began to fight from underneath, hitting Jimmy with a Superplex off the top for a near fall. Knight feigned throwing Jimmy into Jey and then hit him with a big boot, knocking Jey down. Jey jumped onto the apron, distracting Knight and allowing Jimmy to roll up Knight for the win. LA attacked Jimmy after the match, and Jey joined in when Solo Sikoa appeared, hitting Jimmy with another Samoan Spike. This allowed LA Knight to hit Jey Uso with the BFT to end the segment.

It was announced that Nick Aldis was put on administrative leave after his altercation with Gunther at Night of Champions; therefore, Adam Pearce would run both shows in the interim.

The Usos found Jacob Fatu backstage, and Fatu reiterated that he only takes orders from Roman Reigns. Fatu said that his new orders are to go to SmackDown to finish Solo. Jey said he was going as well and he would bring gold back to The Bloodline.

A Lyra Valkyria vignette aired, wondering why everyone was upset at her despite her being the bigger person for a year. Valkyria said she just wanted to bring Bayley with her to the top, and everyone knows she can do it.

Maxxine Dupri approached Chad Gable backstage and said she meant every word she said last week, but she was sorry how she handled it. Gable stopped her and said she didn’t owe him an apology, and to focus on her match tonight.

Raquel Rodriguez vs. Maxxine Dupri

The next match was Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez taking on Maxxine Dupri. Maxxine was caught in a Torture Rack early in the match but was able to wiggle out of it, only to be leveled by a Rodriguez clothesline. Maxxine tried to fight back but was quickly overpowered and fell to the Tejana Bomb. Rodriguez motioned for the Intercontinental title after the match.

Danhausen found his lab messed up backstage, and Liv Morgan entered and blamed him for her Queen of the Ring loss. Morgan demanded he make things right or they’d keep ruining his life.

Chad Gable vs. JD McDonagh

Next, Chad Gable, with his amazing new theme music, took on JD McDonagh. During the commercial break, Michael Cole said it was a catchy new theme and wanted to add it to his “shower playlist,” prompting Corey Graves to ask if he did the clap in the shower as well. Dominik Mysterio accompanied JD McDonagh to the ring, wearing the Danhausen Knicks jersey they stole from his lab. Cole also said that McDonagh’s tights looked like a Holstein heifer. Meanwhile in the ring, Gable and McDonagh exchanged many pinfall attempts with neither gaining an advantage. After a commercial, Gable took it to McDonagh, and McDonagh countered with a standing Spanish Fly. Gable attempted a Moonsault and JD got a foot up, but Gable was able to grab it and apply the Ankle Lock. McDonagh then hit Gable with a top rope Spanish Fly, where it looked like both men landed directly on their heads and necks.

Danhausen appeared from the crowd, and Dom chased him off. Gable applied the Ankle Lock again, and McDonagh tapped out. After the match, JD and Dom approached a suitcase Danhausen left at the ringside, and it exploded when they opened it. Danhausen reappeared, ripped off his jersey, and ran away. Before Danhausen could get to the back, Raquel Rodriguez jumped him and returned the jersey to Dom.

Backstage, Austin Theory approached Maxxine Dupri and asked about what she said to Chad Gable. Theory suggested “this” wasn’t working out and asked if Maxxine wanted to go back down the road with Gable. Otis and Tozawa approached, and Maxxine ran off.

The OTC & The Visionary

The final segment of the night saw World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns come down to the ring, flanked by Jacob Fatu. Reigns was almost immediately interrupted by Seth Rollins. Rollins said that Reigns’ title belongs to him and it was time to collect. Reigns said Rollins hasn’t done anything to earn a shot at the title. Rollins ran down their history and noted that Reigns had never beaten him. He continued, saying that they were both much closer to the end of their careers than the beginning. Reigns admitted he needed to beat Rollins and accepted the challenge for SummerSlam.
