The New Champ is Here
Friday Night SmackDown from Oklahoma City kicked off with Nick Aldis in the ring, saying he was justified in his actions but also took responsibility for his part in what happened with Gunther. He said he was happy to report that he had been reinstated as SmackDown General Manager, then introduced the new WWE Champion, CM Punk.

Punk said he had been negotiating with WWE, Nick Aldis, NBCUniversal, and the USA Network to come to SmackDown. He said he got a phone call from Aldis last Monday, took the opportunity, and was therefore now on the Blue Brand. Punk challenged anyone in the back to come find him to challenge for the WWE Championship. He addressed Sami Zayn, saying Zayn deserves a rematch; Gunther, saying he might regret uttering his name, but he knows he can beat him; Finn Balor, saying they went to war twice recently and could do it again. He rattled off Royce Keys, Damian Priest, and Trick Williams. This brought out Cody Rhodes, and Punk said he thought that when they finally met in the ring, it would be in the main event of WrestleMania, but they can’t run away from each other anymore. Punk indicated he would face Cody tonight, but Cody said SummerSlam, and the two shook hands.
"Just say when…" 👀

Backstage, Jade Cargill and the Baddies were interviewed ahead of Jade’s match against Alexa Bliss tonight, saying she wasn’t responsible for what happened to Alexa; it would be Charlotte’s fault.
Finn Balor vs. Tama Tonga
The first match of the night saw Finn Balor take on Tama Tonga, accompanied by Talla Tonga. It was noted that these two opponents were “running things” as stablemates in Japan over ten years ago. Talla took no time to interfere, grabbing Balor’s foot when he attempted a dive onto Tama from the outside. This led Tama to take control as the show went to commercial. Upon return, Balor began to mount a comeback and set up for the Coup de Grace, but Talla Tonga distracted him, allowing Tama to hit the Cut Throat, followed by a brutal-looking modified Pedigree-style driver for a near fall. Balor hit a big dive onto both Tama and Talla on the outside and successfully hit the Coup de Grace for the win.
Talla was asking for it the whole match!

Carmello Hayes was interviewed by Cathy Kelley backstage, saying that Yachty’s top songs have only been features, and it was time for him to prove to Trick that he is “him”.
R-Truth was seen paying off a bet to Fraxiom for the US Soccer team losing at the World Cup. War Raiders approached and demanded that Truth speak with Aldis to allow them a title shot. Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu interrupted, looking for Solo Sikoa. Fatu asked where Royce Keys was, and Priest said that he was there. Fatu demanded he and Jimmy go to the ring.
Backstage, Nick Aldis was on the phone with Sami Zayn and said Zayn was on a mental health break, and he had the authority to make the match between Rhodes and Punk. Gunther entered and said he deserved a chance to be in the ring with a Champion, and he didn’t care whether it was Cody, Punk, or both. Gunther gave Aldis until the end of the night to fix it.

The Keys to the Bloodline
Jimmy Uso and Fatu called out Solo Sikoa, but instead, Royce Keys appeared. Keys said their family business was starting to affect him and Roman Reigns wasn’t even there. This irked Fatu, who said he and Royce were tight and he wanted to keep it that way, but not to bring up the OTC. Keys said that Fatu has been his brother for the last fourteen years and he refused to let him fall. Keys challenged Jimmy to a match, and Fatu said it was on Jimmy and left. Jimmy acquiesced and asked for a referee as he went to punch Keys. Keys blocked and clotheslined Jimmy out of the ring as the show went to commercial.

After the break, the match began, and Keys took control from the jump. After three minutes, the show went to another ad break as Jimmy threw Royce over the announce desk. As the show returned, Royce attempted a powerslam, but Jimmy’s arm got caught underneath him in a painful-looking spot. Jimmy tried to call a timeout, but Solo Sikoa appeared from behind, attacking Jimmy. Somehow the referee didn’t see this, and Jacob Fatu returned, and the two began brawling on the outside.

Meanwhile in the ring, Jimmy speared Royce and picked up the pin for the win. Fatu and Solo brawled into the ring, and Royce stopped Fatu’s attack. Fatu spared a chair attack on Solo and screamed at him to be there Monday, or else.
"THAT'S NOT YOU!" 😤

Cathy Kelley interviewed CM Punk backstage, and Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae appeared. Candice said that Sami Zayn was the only one who never gave up on Gargano. Punk said he remembered “Johnny Wrestling” and the two of them should get back in the ring because what they’re doing isn’t working. Finn Balor appeared and welcomed Punk to SmackDown.

A Fatal Influence vignette aired, running down Brie and Paige and noting that they were going to win the tag titles at Saturday Night’s Main Event at Madison Square Garden next week.
Alexa Bliss. Jade Cargill
The next match saw Jade Cargill, accompanied by Michin & B-Fab, taking on Alexa Bliss with Charlotte Flair. Jade was distracted by Flair on the outside three times in a row right after the bell rang, and Bliss took advantage each time. Ninety seconds into the match, Cargill finally hit an offensive move, and the show went to an ad break. Upon return, everyone outside got involved, allowing Bliss to get a roll-up for a two-count as Flair and the Baddies brawled. Finally, Jade hit Jaded on Bliss for the win. After the match, the heels teamed up on Flair, and Jade used a chair to bend Bliss’ arm back. Bliss’ arm was bent the wrong way as the segment ended. Either she’s double-jointed or actually seriously injured.

Trick Williams vs. Carmelo Hayes
The main event of the night saw United States Champion Trick Williams taking on Carmelo Hayes. Early in the match, Ricky Saints was shown watching the match from backstage. Trick Williams took control of the match heading into a commercial break, and when they came back, Carmelo began to mount a comeback, hitting Trick with the Dirty Diana. Things swung back and forth from there until Hayes missed a frog splash off the top rope, nearly giving Williams the win after a Trick Kick. Hayes threw Trick into Yachty on the outside and, back in the ring, hit The First 48, only for Baron Corbin to appear and attack both Hayes and Williams.

With five minutes left in the show, Gunther came down to the ring and demanded Nick Aldis give him his decision. Aldis appeared and made a match for Saturday Night’s Main Event with Gunther teaming with Sami Zayn to take on Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. Gunther attacked Aldis and put him in the sleeper four times, with WWE officials attempting to break it up. Finally, after what felt like forever, Cody Rhodes ran down, and the show cut to black before he hit the ring, also cutting off the announcers mid-sentence.
