WWE has revealed the eight-man tournament bracket that will determine Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship challenger in Mexico City.
The tournament will feature wrestlers who regularly compete on AAA, with the winner receiving a title match against Reigns on the September 14 episode of Raw at Arena CDMX. WWE published the full bracket on Friday.
The first round is as follows:
- August 10, Raw: Penta vs. Laredo Kid
- August 15, AAA: Psycho Clown vs. La Parka
- August 17, Raw: Dragon Lee vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.
- August 17, Raw: Rey Fenix vs. El Fiscal
Penta against Laredo Kid will open the tournament on Monday’s Raw at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. The following Saturday’s AAA event in Torreón, Mexico, will host Psycho Clown against La Parka, before the remaining two quarterfinals take place on Raw from Buffalo, New York.
The winner of Penta/Laredo Kid will face the winner of Psycho Clown/La Parka in one semifinal. Dragon Lee or Wagner will meet Fenix or El Fiscal on the other side of the bracket.
That leaves open the possibility of brothers Penta and Fenix meeting in the tournament final. The two have wrestled each other extensively before joining WWE but have not had a singles match against one another in the company.
AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio announced the tournament earlier this week, saying Reigns had agreed to defend his championship in Mexico City.
WWE’s September 14 Raw will be part of a four-day run at Arena CDMX. SmackDown takes place there September 11, followed by Night 2 of TripleMania 34 on September 13 and Raw the following evening.
Dates for the tournament semifinals and final have not yet been announced.
