Family Business

Monday Night Raw from Norfolk kicked off with Michael Cole announcing that Royce Keys was out indefinitely because of the attack by Jacob Fatu last week. Solo Sikoa appeared in the crowd, mimicked Jey Uso’s catchphrases, and said he came to handle family business. Jey Uso interrupted, and Roman Reigns called the play, and he needed Solo to fall in line. Solo responded by saying that it looked like Jey Uso “fell off” instead of falling in line. Sikoa reiterated that he would not rejoin the family, and Jey Uso screamed that he had raised Solo and that he owed everything to The Bloodline. Jey proposed a match between them tonight, and when he wins, Solo has to rejoin The Bloodline. Solo accepted, and when he wins, the family leaves him alone. 

A short while later backstage, Jacob Fatu asked what Jey Uso was doing with Solo. Fatu said it looked like Jey was running his own play. Jey retorted that he would bring Solo back to the family, something Fatu couldn’t do.

World Title #1 Contenders Tournament

A promo package aired ahead of the first match of the #1 Contenders Tournament for a shot at Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship, featuring Penta and Laredo Kid.

 

This led directly into the first match of the tournament, with the winner going on to face Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship this September in Mexico. Laredo Kid gained control going into an ad break with a moonsault off the top rope onto Penta on the floor. Upon return, Penta began to mount a comeback, but Kid Laredo kept shutting him down, including hitting Penta with a Poisonrana followed up by a 450 Splash for a near fall. Penta began a comeback again, hitting a Tope con Hilo followed by a Penta Driver for a near fall of his own. He picked up the win by hitting Laredo Kid with the Mexican Destroyer after Laredo Kid missed a twisting plancha. Penta goes on to face the winner of La Parka and Psycho Clown.

The Vision was interviewed backstage, where Logan Paul called Alpha Academy losers, well beneath them. Austin Theory said he would hand Tozawa an ass-whooping tonight. Throughout the whole interview, Bron Breakker stared off into the distance before finally asking Byron Saxton what he thought of Oba Femi. Saxton said he thought Femi was the future, and Breakker said he sounded like Paul.

Theory vs. Tozawa

The aforementioned match was up next, as The Vision headed to the ring with Bron still completely distracted. Tozawa started off the match by attempting to jump Theory, but his offense was quickly shut down. This was essentially a longer squash with Tozawa getting a few hope spots. Theory won in just over eight minutes with his Off Switch finisher (which is just a hard forearm shot). After the match, Theory was going to use a chair on Tozawa when officials ran out and stopped him. Breakker got in the ring to spear Tozawa, but Oba Femi’s music hit. Femi dispatched Theory easily, but officials got between Femi and Breakker before any physicality could occur. 

Rey Mysterio was asked about the #1 Contenders tournament and was interrupted by Dragon Lee and Dominik Mysterio. Dom complained about not being a part of the tournament, and Lee and Dom go in each other’s faces. Dragon Lee challenged Dom to a match, and Dominik agreed.

 

Stephanie Vaquer & Becky Lynch

Former World Champion Stephanie Vaquer was out next, saying that she missed Liv Morgan and Judgment Day getting scared every time she comes for them. Vaquer said she would go after the Judgment Day one by one and finish with Morgan, saying Liv’s title belongs to her. Becky Lynch interrupted, saying they both wanted to beat up Liv Morgan and take her title. Becky admitted that Vaquer made a big impact on Raw since she debuted, but noted she was gone more often than she was there.

She continued, saying that she would happily watch Vaquer beat up Liv Morgan, but Vaquer doesn’t deserve the title; she does. Vaquer said if Becky gets in her way, she would show her what “La Primera” was all about. Vaquer left, and Liv Morgan attacked Becky from behind. Vaquer returned to the ring to help, but Becky got in her face, and the two argued. 

LA Knight cut a backstage promo saying that he was going to win the #1 Contenders tournament, but when he was told it was a Luchador tournament, he was disappointed. Solo Sikoa interrupted and asked whether he had seen what happened to Royce Keys last week. Sikoa tried to warn Knight that he was aiming for not just Reigns, but the whole Bloodline. 

Dominik Mysterio vs. Dragon Lee

Next was the match set up earlier with Dominik Mysterio taking on Dragon Lee. Dom had control early on, hitting a dive onto Lee on the outside as the show went to commercial. Upon return, Dragon Lee mounted a comeback, hitting a Tope con Hilo on Mysterio. Mysterio recovered and hit the 619 on Lee, but Lee got his knees up on Mysterio’s Frog Splash and hit Operation Dragon for the win. After the match, Big Cass appeared, attacking Dragon Lee. Je’Von Evans ran down and brawled with Cass after Cass took him out last week. Evans mounted a brief attack but was quickly overpowered by Cass and left lying. 

Sol Ruca was asked backstage about being jumped by the Judgment Day. Sol said tonight was all about revenge, and she was already ready to go back after the Women’s Intercontinental title. Ruca said she had a partner who also wanted revenge against the Judgment Day. Danhausen entered and said he would be her partner for some monies, but Ruca said the spot had already been filled. 

LA Knight was arguing with Adam Pearce about not being in the #1 Contenders tournament. Pearce gave his word that Knight would get a shot after the tournament. Knight left, ran into Jacob Fatu, and told Fatu to go get permission from Reigns to fight him. Fatu ran through all his catchphrases and left. 

Judgment Day vs. Sol Ruca and…?

The next match was Judgment Day’s Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez taking on Sol Ruca and a mystery partner who was revealed to be Iyo Sky. After an ad break, Ruca made a hot tag to Iyo Sky, and Sky took it to Perez. Iyo caught a big boot from Raquel, thrusting it into Roxanne’s face, followed by a Bullet Train attack on Raquel. The two teams continued to go back and forth with all four women in the ring simultaneously. Sky set up for the Over the Moonsault, but Raquel stopped her. Sky hit an Asahi Moonsault on Raquel on the outside. Ruca reversed a Pop Rox attempt and hit the Sol Snatcher for the win. 

A little later backstage, Lyra Valyria approached Ruca and Sky and facetiously congratulated them on their win. Lyra wondered why Sol Ruca thought she could get back to her Intercontinental title when she hasn’t had a shot yet. Iyo asked if Lyra was okay and Sol said she must need some sleep. 

Bron Breakker asked Paul Heyman backstage if he saw Oba Femi getting in his face. Breakker asked Heyman if he thought Femi was the future of WWE, and Heyman said Breakker is starting to think Femi is the future, and that was the problem. Heyman said he would continue to respect Femi until Breakker shows him that Femi is not worthy of his respect. 

Backstage, Chad Gable approached Penta and Rey Mysterio and congratulated Penta on his win over Laredo Kid. Gable told Rey that he wanted to defend his Intercontinental Championship against him. Rey said he has a lot left in the tank and agreed.

 

Solo Sikoa vs. Jey Uso

The main event of the night was the match set up in the first segment, with Jey Uso taking on Solo Sikoa. If Jey wins, Solo has to join the Bloodline. If Solo wins, the family has to leave him alone. The pair started off the match by yelling plot points at each other, much like the Rollins/Reigns match from SummerSlam. Sikoa dominated early on, but Jey threw Solo into the steel steps during a commercial break, turning the tide.
