AEW Collision 9/5 Results: Motor City Machine Guns debut, Women’s Tag Title rematch set for All Out

Andrade El Idolo retained the AEW National Championship against Gabe Kidd on Saturday’s Collision, while the Motor City Machine Guns won their first AEW match.

The September 5 episode was taped Wednesday at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. Excalibur and Tony Schiavone were joined on commentary by NJPW’s Walker Stewart.

The show also produced several announcements for Dynamite: Rebel Heart and All Out, including a Chicago Street Fight for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship.

An appearance by Rebel (Tanea Brooks) alongside Britt Baker in an edition of ‘The Waiting Room’ was confirmed for the Dynamite: Rebel Heart special on September 9.

Young Bucks vs. Brian Cage & Jake Doyle

Brian Cage and Jake Doyle attacked before the bell and used their size advantage to isolate Nick Jackson.

Nick escaped after hitting Cage with a Canadian Destroyer and brought Matt into the match. The Bucks increased the pace, although Doyle came close to winning after countering a hurricanrana into a powerbomb.

Cage was later knocked into Doyle before the Bucks hit Doyle with the BTE Trigger for the pin.

Willow Nightingale responds to Mercedes Moné

Willow Nightingale addressed her loss to Mercedes Moné at All In and comments made by Moné and Thekla on Dynamite.

Nightingale said she would not make excuses for losing and contrasted her response with Moné disappearing for months following previous setbacks. She invited Moné and Thekla to repeat their comments to her face.

Hangman Page, Bandido & Brody King vs. Braddah Kaimi, LBJ & Vin Parker

Former AEW World Trios Champions Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King made quick work of their opponents.

Page hit the Deadeye on Vin Parker, King followed with a lariat, and Bandido finished the sequence with a frog splash for the victory.

  • The Bang Bang Gang later reflected on leaving All In without championship gold. Juice Robinson and Ace Austin turned their attention toward their match later in the show against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight.

Brawling Birds challenge Divine Dominion

AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor said they were finished playing games with former champions Megan Bayne and Lena Kross.

The Brawling Birds challenged Divine Dominion to a Chicago Street Fight at All Out on September 26.

Tony Khan subsequently made the title match official.

Hayter and Windsor defeated Bayne and Kross for the championship at All In, ending Divine Dominion’s 168-day reign. Bayne then defeated Windsor on the following Dynamite.

Nick Wayne vs. Komander

Nick Wayne repeatedly tried to slow Komander’s aerial offense, at one point pulling him down by his mask and sending him into the turnbuckles.

Komander rallied with a DDT, Mexican Destroyer and dive to the floor. Wayne later got his knees up on an aerial attack and eventually caught Komander before hitting the Prodigy Plex for the win.

Wayne demanded that the referee raise his hand afterward. Chris Jericho instead slipped into the ring and grabbed it before Wayne realized who was standing beside him.

Jericho then dropped Wayne with the Judas Effect.

The Conglomeration and Konosuke Takeshita

Kyle O’Reilly said The Conglomeration intended to keep chasing championships until everyone once again had a backpack containing gold.

Asked whether Konosuke Takeshita was now part of the group, Orange Cassidy offered no definitive answer. Takeshita simply declared that he was “The Alpha.”

The Conglomeration will challenge Swerve Strickland and The New Level for the AEW World Trios Championship on Wednesday.

Persephone vs. VertVixen

Britt Baker joined commentary as Persephone made her first TBS Championship defense since winning the title from Maya World at All In.

VertVixen pushed the champion during a competitive stretch and scored a near fall following a running kick and power move.

Persephone recovered with a shotgun dropkick before hitting a crucifix bomb for the pin.

Baker joined Persephone afterward to attack VertVixen and prepared to apply the Lockjaw. Maya World interrupted, followed by Thunder Rosa, causing Persephone and Baker to retreat.

World, Rosa and Hyan will face Persephone, Baker and Hikaru Shida on Dynamite.

Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Swirl

Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin made their AEW in-ring debut against ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Blake Christian and Lee Johnson, accompanied by Jay Lethal.

The Motor City Machine Guns controlled the early portion with their established tandem offense before Christian and Johnson isolated Sabin.

The Swirl came close after consecutive aerial attacks, but Shelley broke up the cover.

Sabin and Shelley regrouped, removed Christian from the equation and hit their tandem offense on Johnson, with Sabin making the pin.

Jack Perry looks toward the AEW World Championship

Jack Perry addressed failing to win the Casino Gauntlet at All In.

Perry said the defeat had not altered his long-term goal and predicted that he would eventually become AEW World Champion. He added that his plan remained to face the best wrestlers in order to become the best himself.

  • The Demand also addressed their loss at All In, dismissing Swerve Strickland and The New Level as an assembled unit rather than a genuine trio and insisting the champions had been fortunate to beat them.

Andrade El Idolo vs. Gabe Kidd

Gabe Kidd attacked Andrade before the bell and immediately took the fight outside, at one point grabbing Andrade’s Casino Gauntlet contract.

Andrade responded with the Three Amigos before the physical match continued around ringside. Kidd later countered an attempted aerial attack by raising his knees and scored a near fall with a powerbomb.

The two traded heavy strikes during the closing stretch. Andrade hit his back elbow for a near fall before following with The DM to retain the National Championship.

Afterward, Andrade pointed to the Casino Gauntlet contract he won at All In and said becoming AEW World Champion was only a matter of time.

However, he said he would wait for the right moment to use his opportunity. Andrade instead wants to establish himself as the greatest National Champion and vowed to defend the title every week.

Tommaso Ciampa targets championship gold

Tommaso Ciampa reflected on his short time in AEW, including competing at All In.

Ciampa said it was now time for the “Psycho Killer” to become the “Psycho King” and begin collecting championship gold.

Athena vs. Isla Dawn

Isla Dawn faced ROH Women’s World Champion Athena in a Proving Ground match, meaning a victory or surviving the time limit would have earned her a future championship opportunity.

Dawn scored several pinning attempts and landed a running knee and Saito suplex as she pushed the champion.

Athena escaped an attempted move from Dawn’s shoulders and hit consecutive German suplexes. A handstand elbow in the corner followed before Athena connected with the O-Face for the victory.

Kyle Fletcher & Kevin Knight vs. Ace Austin & Juice Robinson

Don Callis paired Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight despite the continuing friction between the two former champions.

That tension appeared immediately. Knight tagged himself into the match early, and both men repeatedly argued or attempted to outdo one another.

Ace Austin and Juice Robinson took advantage at several points, with Robinson scoring a near fall on Knight after a powerbomb.

Fletcher eventually took control against Austin and connected with a running kick. Knight then made a blind tag as Fletcher hit his brainbuster.

Knight immediately followed with the UFO splash and pinned Austin, taking the victory for himself.

Fletcher appeared amused rather than angry after the bell, with the two continuing to compete over who received the greater share of the attention.
