The legendary career of Adam Copeland is nearing its end.
Copeland, formerly known as Edge, announced on Wednesday night that he plans to end his in-ring career in 2027.
Shortly after winning a match against Josh Alexander on Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, qualifying him for the Clockwork Carnage championship match this Saturday, Copeland got on the microphone.
Copeland first revealed that tag partner Christian Cage suffered a series of injuries two weeks back when they competed in a ladder match at All Out, including numerous broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
Copeland described these injuries as something which caused him to “do some soul searching.”
“My face isn’t on the posters on teenagers’ walls anymore,” Copeland said. “I’m aging out, and that’s okay. It happens to everybody. But because of that, I just want to let y’all know that 2027 will be my last year in professional wrestling. All that being said, that is why I have to go for the AEW Championship.”
Copeland, 52, has been wrestling since the early 90s. His career includes six runs as WWE World Heavyweight Champion, 12 reigns as WWE World Tag Team Champion, and a reign earlier this year as AEW World Tag Team Champion.
His aforementioned aspiration to gain the AEW World Championship could emerge as soon as this weekend, when he competes in AEW’s first-ever Clockwork Carnage match. Along with seven others, Copeland will be fighting in a unique ruleset announced just a few weeks back.
