WWE NXT notes: Pete Dunne aligns with Pat McAfee, Priest & Shirai get special entrances

Pete Dunne sides with Pat McAfee, Damian Priest and Io Shirai get special entrances and Michael P.S. Hayes makes an appearance.

After assisting Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch in becoming the new NXT Tag Team Champions last week, Pat McAfee appeared at NXT Halloween Havoc alongside Burch and Lorcan and McAfee explained why he paid Ridge Holland to ambush Adam Cole, Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish respectively. McAfee was soon interrupted by Kyle O’Reilly who was followed by former WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne who appeared on NXT TV for the first time since March.

Dunne appeared to chase off McAfee, Burch and Lorcan but ended up hitting Kyle O’Reilly with a steel chair and siding with the opposite trio.

Both Damian Priest and Io Shirai received special entrances for their championship matches. Priest lost the North American Title to Johnny Gargano in the opening match. Io Shirai retained her NXT Women’s Championship in a TLC match in the main event and was played to the ring by Poppy.

Michael P.S. Hayes made a cameo appearance during Cameron Grimes and Dexter Lumis’ cinematic match. The match had several segments on the show and it concluded with Lumis choking Grimes out in the ring.

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar paid tribute to Rey Mysterio at NXT Halloween Havoc. Escobar sported similar gear to what Rey Mysterio wore at the 1997 WCW Halloween Havoc event.

On next week’s NXT, Tommaso Ciampa is going one-on-one with Velveteen Dream and Ember Moon is scheduled to face Dakota Kai in singles competition.
