Rampage notes: Women’s tag match opener, Women’s Owen bracket revealed

Rampage was a taped show from the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. It featured a women’s tag team match with Ruby Soho and Toni Storm versus Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter, Hook taking on JD Drake, and plenty of in-ring action.

Match Results:

  • Ruby Soho and Toni Storm over Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter
  • Hook over JD Drake
  • Riho over Yuka Sakazaki
  • Jay Lethal over Konosuke Takeshita

AEW Rampage started with quick entrances from the participants in the women’s tag team match, and then the action got underway. During the picture-in-picture commercial, there was an interesting commercial featuring Tony Khan speaking about Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and how he tries to use people of Asian and Pacific Island descent on his wrestling shows.

Once the PIP ended, Ruby Soho received a hot tag, and the match got going. Toni Storm hit an awkward-looking rollup to pin Britt Baker, which was a surprising result.

Eddy Kingston called into the commentary booth to cut a promo on Jericho, where he spoke about how badly his face was damaged from the fireball attack. He said his wife cried from the damage he received and that he would hurt Jericho badly.

Next, they quickly cut to a Tony Nese and Mark Sterling promo, where they requested a match against Danhausen for Rampage next week in Long Island, so it seems Danhausen is cleared from his leg injury.

Hook made his way to the ring for his match against JD Drake. He headbutted a JD Drake chop, which is not something you see every day. Hook countered a reverse DDT into the REDRUM for the finish. After the match, Danhausen came out to address Hook. He asked him to be in his corner for the Tony Nese challenge, which he appears to have accepted. Hook didn’t answer, but he shoved Danhausen, implying that he wasn’t interested.

FTR cut a backstage promo about the importance of winning the Owen Hart tournament before Yuka Sakazaki made her way to the ring to take on Riho. The pair had a great back-and-forth match, but ultimately Riho managed to steal the win with an inside cradle. After Riho qualified, AEW released the final bracket for the Women’s tournament, which features Britt Baker taking on the Joker.

Shawn Spears cut a promo on Wardlow where he called himself Wardlow’s kryptonite and implied that he might be next to take on Wardlow.

Any ideas that Lambert might be turning babyface were quickly squashed as he buried his own hometown of Baltimore before letting Ethan Page take the mic. He said the mixed tag match with himself and Van Zant against Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti was off. He was interrupted by Frankie Kazarian, who then asked for his shot at the TNT title. 

Eventually, Scorpio Sky took the mic and told Dan Lambert to put the secondary TNT title away. He said the title would no longer be passed around like Tay Conti backstage, and then Sky promised he would give Kazarian a title shot next week.

Jungle Boy and Ricky Starks brawled by the commentary table to build hype for their FTW Championship match on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Konosuke Takeshita, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh had a short Mark Henry segment to get to the main event.

Jay Lethal and his crew made their entrance first, and then DDT’s Konosuke Takeshita made his way to the ring. After a fairly long match (by Rampage standards at least), Lethal managed to hit a Lethal Injection to pick up the win. After the match, Lethal and Dutt put the boots on Takeshita, but the Best Friends came out to make the save. Singh got the best of Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta, which led to Samoa Joe coming out and being intercepted by security to send the show off the air.
