Friday Night SmackDown drops by five percent on Fox, strong viewership in Canada

Friday Night SmackDown did not experience the same post-SummerSlam momentum as Raw but topped all of television for the evening.

The August 5th edition of the show from Greenville averaged 2,093,000 viewers and approximately 639,000 (0.49) in the 18-49 demographic, per Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and Showbuzz Daily.

The audience was down five percent in overall viewership and the same amount in the 18-49 demo from the previous week while still beating everything on television on Friday in the key demo.

It was SmackDown’s lowest figures since July 15th

The major loss was among adults 18-34 dropped 25 percent and was the show’s lowest average in that demo since May 27th. AEW Rampage had the opposite outcome with its highest 18-34 audience since April.

In Canada, SmackDown averaged 194,700 viewers and 80,800 in the 25-54 demographic as it finished fourth among sports programming for the night in the country. It was SmackDown’s highest audience in Canada since April 1st, which was the show leading into WrestleMania weekend.

The show was promoted around Roman Reigns addressing Drew McIntyre and culminated with the return of Karrion Kross alongside Scarlett in the closing segment.
