AEW Dynamite drops from previous week, ranks #5 on cable behind ESPN

AEW Dynamite’s final episode of the year saw the show hit a three-week low in viewership while ranking fifth among cable originals on Wednesday.

The December 28th New Year’s Smash edition of the show averaged 876,000 viewers and approximately 365,000 (0.28) in the 18-49 demographic to rank fifth on cable behind ESPN programming including three college football games. (Wrestlenomics and Showbuzz Daily).

Compared with last week’s numbers, Dynamite’s viewership fell by 8.5% while the 18-49 audience dropped by 8% with its lowest audience since December 7th and smallest demo audience since November 30th.

In the 18-49 demo, the largest decline was among the male audience which declined by 13% with females only down by 4%.

In the 18-34 demographic, they dropped by 24% this week with its lowest audience in that demo since November 16th.

Adults 35-49 saw a small increase of 4.5% while adults 50+ decreased from 0.43 to 0.41 this week.

Dynamite’s competition included the Kansas vs. Arkansas game on ESPN that topped cable on Wednesday with 3.9 million viewers and 0.93 in the 18-49 demo. Dynamite topped MTV’s Challenge and the NHL game between the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils on TNT head-to-head in the demo.

New Year’s Smash included a TNT Championship main event between Samoa Joe and Wardlow and the sixth match in the best-of-seven series between Death Triangle and The Elite.

For the month of December, AEW Dynamite averaged 906,000 viewers and 0.30 in the 18-49 demographic, compared with 882,000 viewers and 0.29 in November.

Due to the holiday schedule, we have not received Canadian viewership figures yet for Dynamite on TSN 2.
