Arrest warrant issued for Nate Diaz over street fight, Diaz rep issues statement

A street fight involving Nate Diaz has resulted in a warrant issued for his arrest.

This past Saturday, the 38-year-old Diaz was in New Orleans to attend a boxing fight involving teammate Chris Avila.

During the event, Diaz threw a water bottle at reality star Chase DeMoor, but that is not where the chaos ended that night.

Outside on Bourbon Street, Diaz applied a choke on a man identified as Rodney Peterson, who was put out cold on the street by Diaz.

Peterson addressed the incident and posted a video, threatening to knock out Diaz the next time he sees him.

MMA Fighting is reporting that New Orleans police have issued an arrest warrant where Diaz faces a charge of suspicion of second-degree battery.

The police issued the following statement on Saturday’s incident:

At or about 2:10am on Saturday April 22- NOPD’s Bourbon Street. Promenade officers and supervisors were alerted to a large altercation in the 400 block of Bourbon St,” the statement read. “The officers were able to disperse the crowd. Witness alerted the officers to a white male subject who was believed to be unconscious. A short time later, the subject regained consciousness. Officers observed the subject was bleeding from the rear of his head and EMS was summoned to render aid. After investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Nate Diaz. He has been charged with second degree battery. He is not in custody at this time.

Since then, Diaz’s representative Zach Rosenfeld issued a statement that his client has been in contact with the authorities in New Orleans and added:

Nate’s attorney looks forward to presenting all of the facts about this incident to the District Attorney which clearly demonstrate that a trained fighter named Rodney Peterson aggressively pursued Nate with the intention of engaging him and once doing so, Nate acted entirely in self-defence.

No further comment will be made at this time.

Diaz is scheduled to make his pro boxing debut on Saturday, August 5 against Jake Paul in Dallas, Texas.
