The UFC has announced one of its biggest heavyweight fights in several years with Jon Jones set to compete later this year.

In a video announcement, UFC president Dana White stated that heavyweight champion Jon Jones would make his first defense of the championship against former champ Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 on November 11.

UFC 295 is set to take place from Madison Square Garden in New York City, which continues the promotion’s yearly tradition of running a November event from the venue (aside from the pandemic).

After a three-year hiatus, Jones (27-1, 1 NC) returned to the octagon this past March and stopped Ciryl Gane at 2:04 of the opening round at UFC 285 to win the vacant championship.

The title was vacated after Francis Ngannou’s contract with the promotion came to an end and the star has since attached himself with the PFL.

Miocic (20-4) will be 41 years old by fight time and has not competed since March 2021 when he was knocked out by Ngannou at UFC 260 and lost the championship.

The fight between the two has been talked about throughout the year since Jones returned to action.

UFC 295 coincides with the 30th anniversary of the promotion, which staged its first event on November 12, 1993.
